- Dear reader, you may remember me mentioning (whining, complaining etc.) that I had injured my right knee while dancing at my son’s wedding in September. The extent of that injury was:
Medial meniscus demonstrates a oblique tear which transects the root and central
posterior horn. Medial meniscus is peripherally subluxed.
I think this got me sent to a surgeon’s office because the tear transected the root of the meniscus. That’s where the meniscus attaches to the actual bone, so it was more of a big deal.
However, I was able to dodge surgery by being faithful to physical therapy. I was going several times a week until recently and that ate up a lot of my free time. But it’s over now. I’m done with the surgeon and I’m done with going to physical therapy, although I still have to do about 30 minutes of exercises daily – ish. So I will be able to get back to blogging more on the regular. Thanks for tuning in.
2. I’m moving 7-quick takes to Monday. Getting it done and up by Friday was just too difficult for me. Monday gives me time to write over the weekend. I’ll keep the Linkz thing up until Saturday morning. That gives everyone else more time to write as well!
3. I am doing very limited playing at mass, but my latest effort is here at 2:40 and 40:12
4. My darling granddaughter convinced me to hold a Valentine’s party for her last weekend. One of the benefits of having a grandchild is that they can have their parties at their parents’ home instead of mine! So I happily sent out invitations, organized some activities, and ordered pizza! For a three-hour party that included a movie (Beauty and the Beast, animated) It was perfect.
What surprised me about the entire thing was how exhausting it is to make … sugar cookies! Since my oldest daughter is almost 23 and Rosie is 16, I haven’t had to do any real baking, baking for years! When they want to have cakes, brownies, cookies etc., they whip them up by themselves. But for Miss C., they weren’t available and I was on my own. Creaming butter by hand takes some energy!!
But I persevered. I baked them… the girls at the party decorated them. I think it took them all of 20 minutes, tops! Next time, they can bake them too!
5. In two weeks I get to teach our little elementary, ecumenical, homeschool history co-op class about Martin Luther and King Henry VIII. While I’m totally down for tackling King Henry in a fun way, it’s going to be a little more challenging to tackle Martin Luther with this group. There were a couple of kids in that class who were just aching to get to the crusades so that they could recite the “anti-papist” rhetoric that I’m sure they heard at home or at their church. To cruise through the waters of the Reformation fairly without offending anyone is going to take some special skills … gulp.
6. It’s time to sign up for College credit plus in our state. Although it’s very popular in my area, I know some moms who are just avoiding it altogether. One of the moms shared with me that her son is in his second or third semester of studying a piece of literature that is just super interesting to him. He’ll know more about this piece than most college graduates. He’s learning and he’s enjoying it – why should he be forced into a college literature class that probably won’t be half as interesting as what he’s getting at home. Another mom shared with me that the classes her kid took at a local Catholic college didn’t even transfer to his preferred school. What got him the big scholarships was his ACT score.
So why aren’t we spending more time working on that instead of sending our high school kids in with the college crowd? I’ll just never fully understand that.
7. With that in mind, Rosie took the ACT for the first time last week. She thinks she killed the English section but probably bombed the math. Apparently, under pressure, Algebra completely left her skill set. But she could be exaggerating. This is a girl who described hunger pangs after missing lunch but still having to sing at an afternoon program as, “fighting for my life!” So we shall see.
