  1. I am feeling a little bit burned out by our homeschool co-op. I’m not gonna lie. We would have been done by now but we decided to give ourselves a little bit of a break after Christmas AND the place where we hold co-op every week was taken over by the health department one week so that they could give out COVID vaccinations. So instead of being done now, we will go into Easter week, which kind of sucks.
  2. I think I’m just a little jealous of the families of our co-op who have just told me, “We’re done. Thanks for having us!” and others that have gone on spring break. I committed to teach 12 classes this semester and so I’m feeling … stuck. Especially this close to Easter when I just want to concentrate on spring cleaning and getting my house, home, and heart ready for Easter.
  3. Last week, we read The Bee Tree and I had some cute crafts planned and even forced myself to learn a piece on my flute to play for the kids. In the spirit of, “No Good deed goes unpunished,” a half-gallon of yellow paint spilled inside of the suitcase I use to lug all of my materials to co-op every week. And it got all over pretty much everything! That might have something to do with my bad mood a bit.
  4. I’m also feeling melancholy over the ongoing, never-ending, COVID mandates. As I mentioned in this post, the governor has us cleverly stuck in his web tying all of his mandates to the arbitrary “cases.” I blogged about that here. Fortunately, a bill that would limit his power in this area passed and then over rid his veto this week. When the bill goes into effect (end of June before the Fourth of July) we will finally be free of all of these mandates, and life will return to normal. I hope.
  5. This will be the second Easter in a row that I have NOT participated musically in any meaningful way. It is very humbling and sad. Mr. Pete has been singing again under our new musical director and he is very happy and excited about the things they have been learning and preparing for Good Friday. So I am very excited for him and I can’t wait to hear them. But I’m wondering if my services as a flutist will ever be needed there again in any kind of meaningful way, or should I just continue to pursue or make other opportunities.
  6. I did make it to the stations of the cross last night. I found this version online and this stood out to me:

Lord, make me realize
that every time I wipe a dish,
pick up an object off the floor,
assist a child in some small task,
or let someone go ahead
in traffic or the store;
each time I feed the hungry,
clothe the naked,
teach the ignorant, or lend my hand in any way it matters not to whom

So with that in mind, I feel a little bit better about my life right now, especially in my roles as wife, mother, grandmother, and homeschool co-op teacher.

7. My first attempt at playing Flight of the Bumblebee after only two days of practicing it.

  1. Hi,
Your last week sounds much like mine! In spite of the frustration, you are really lucky to have a homeschool co-op at all, here there are two different groups and they have nothing at all for my high school aged daughters, just crafts and things for little ones, plus they charge an enormous amount for the groups. So frustrating! (Your group is very lucky to have someone as dedicated as you!)
I am praying that things will get better for your Easter. At least the Flight of the Bumblebee is going well, right? That was amazing for only two days! I play alto and baritone saxophone, and it would take me months to get to that point. Happy Easter and God bless!

    1. Thank you so much Michele!
