We just finished our third week of homeschooling for the semester and our third week at the homeschool co-op. Week one, a Robert Frost poetry study, is here. Week two, a study of India with the book One Grain of Rice, is here.

This week we read The Wild Horses of Sweetbriar, which is honestly very difficult to get, although it is read on Youtube by a number of good narrators. I’ll have my plans for that up later this weekend.

Next week we are studying a charming book called, The Duchess Bakes a Cake!

Unbelievably, it seems that I will get to be the mother of the groom two more times in the next two years. Sam is planning to marry his long-time lady and business party this fall. Noah and his fiance are planning a 2022 wedding because she has to finish her degree this year.

I rather enjoyed being the mother of the groom in some ways. There are no set responsibilities except to be supportive and help out wherever I can. Of course there is hosting the rehearsal dinner and inviting the bride’s parents to dinner once, but other than that it’s a low stress job. It will be interesting to see how these two sons and their brides differ from my first son and his wife.

Rosie’s cross country team finally managed to have their awards night. It was pushed back several times because of the COVID pandemic. They finally had it on Monday night. There was no banquet and parents weren’t allowed on site, although we could watch it live stream. Everyone had to wear a mask and they were socially distanced throughout the church auditorium, where the ceremony was held.

The kids had fun! They loved seeing each other again, and it was great to hear the coaches praise each of the athletes for their accomplishments.

Long-time readers might remember that Rosie had a horrible season last year. She turned her ankle twice and then suffered from anemia. But with therapy, treatment and a change in diet as well as iron supplements, I think she’s going to be good to go for track season. If there is a track season…

But mainly I’m glad that Rosie managed to letter again in cross country. So as a sophomore she has met the requirement for lettering twice in her high school career so far. Next year, hopefully, she’ll make it to districts and beyond.

And then part of me wonders, what’s the point? With the left in charge of things for the next four years, while she finishes high school and starts college, her chances are diminished.

If one more person tells me President Biden is a Catholic, I’m going to say this: “Judas was an apostle and Satan was an angle.”

I heard a great explanation of how Ohio is messing with the data regarding COVID -19 and shutting down our liberties.

If we have 100 ICU beds, and two have patients in them – one with COVID and one without, this could be reported as “1 percent of the ICU beds are filled with COVID patients.” Gov. Dewine doesn’t do it that way. He reports it as 50 percent of the ICU patients have COVID 19. It’s technically true, but it’s not as scary as the 1 percent COVID occupancy number.

If you’re from Ohio, or you just want to understand the manipulation of COVID data better, you should really be watching the DePressor on Youtube every Tuesday and Thursday, or whenever Gov. Dewine decides to do a press conference.
