I rarely do this, but I had to block two people on Facebook this week. The first was Mark Shea. Facebook tells me that we had been friends since 2011, but I only remember that he commented on one of my posts twice – and neither time was it very nice. This week I posted an article about the CDC report that 94% of the COVID deaths in this country had contributing conditions. According to the CDC:

Table 3 shows the types of health conditions and contributing causes mentioned in conjunction with deaths involving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death. The number of deaths with each condition or cause is shown for all deaths and by age groups.

I wrote:

I share this as good news, and I’m taking a risk, sharing it as public because, for some mind-boggling reason, I know some of you will want to debate the good news that healthy people don’t die from COVID-19.

So Mark wrote:

By your logic, nobody dies from HIV/AIDS either. Co-morbidity is a thing. Stop talking like a eugenicist bragging that COVID only kills the unfit, so it’s not a problem. 183K are dead from COVID. Stop helping to kill more with FOX propaganda.

Mark Shea

And to add injury to insult, one of my nieces applauded this remark calling her aunt a eugenicist. I won’t block a niece. I could block Shea, and I did.

Oh … and I don’t even get cable t.v. , just Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. For news I watch the Blaze, but I don’t even watch that very often.

Cecily just unfriended me so I blocked her because I don’t need to be tempted to go and see what she’s posting any more. We had a good run of staying connected even though we profoundly disagree with each other on everything. But it was time to let go.

The school board decided to let the kids have sports this season, although there are A LOT of hoops to jump through and procedures to follow. But kudos to  Diana Autry and Derrick Hall who decided that they were going to listen to the voice of the people and let the parents make these decisions!

One of the more bizarre comments during the discussion came from board member Valerie, McKitrick. She read a letter from a parent that went along the lines of, “Life is hard, grief is a thing, we need to teach kids how to deal with loss and disappointment. “

It’s one thing to teach students how to deal with grief. It’s another thing to cause that grief unnecessarily. These healthy athletes are already doing school from home, and that’s a loss all on its own.

The risk of dying from COVID 19 when you are under 24 years old is only 0.21% To date, only 375 young people have died from COVID. Twice as many children under 12 die in car crashes.

So cross country practice has moved from day time at 8 a.m. to afternoons at 4 p.m. It’s super hot and very hard to get motivated. I’m going to have to actually start to get my dinners done earlier because when I get home from walking, I’m done until bedtime!

I wrote a couple of years ago about Schneider Park and the unmarked cemetery there.

Now, there’s a movie about it!
