Rosie is running again! She has full range of motion and strength in her ankle, no swelling and the doc approved her to return to cross country practice. Yesterday, right after her appointment, she ran three miles at a slow 9 minute mile pace and then today she picked up the speed a little for another three miles. Slow and steady, but at least she’s back!
That is if there’s a season. Our state is allowing sports to continue with a lot of regulations for contact sports, but our school board won’t decide until Monday. Even if they allow sports to continue, there still might not be much of a season because venues keep dropping races and invitationals.
I’m just glad she’s back! Because this is the third sprain for things she says she didn’t see on the path, I’m scheduling an eye appointment too – just in case.

We took a little vacay last week. We try to take a little time off every year because Mr. Pete needs something to soothe his soul and relax him before he heads off into the busyness of fall. This year, I’m not sure how busy he is going to be because of COVID. But even that uncertainty is stressful so we just took some time to get out and enjoy.
At first, we were going to our usual spot in Michigan, but again, because of protests and COVID restrictions, we (Mr. Pete with me, Rosie, Izzy, and Miss C.) opted to stay in-state. We went to Catawba Island in Northern Ohio, on Lake Erie. We rented a small, one-room cottage with a shower and toilet. Basically this place was just one step up from a tent, but it had bunk beds and even a small t.v. The main attraction was being close to the lake and some nice beaches. We even took a ferry boat to Put-In-Bay Island.

Last Friday, my family spent two hours in the waters of Lake Erie while I sat on the beach listening to The Great Influenza. This is the book my governor read which seems to be guiding all of his decision. To understand him, I started listening to the book on Audible.
But I had another reason for staying on the beach. That night, my family reunion was going to have its very first ever ZOOM meeting. and I didn’t want to show up with “lake hair.” My family has been having a reunion every year for 73 years. All of the original family members that started it way back then have passed away, but the first and now second cousins are carrying on.
Some good stuff came out of it. We visited from all over the country for about an hour and a half. And one of the cousins produced this photo that I had never seen before. My mom is the 10-year-old girl on the far right, with her 8-year-old brother and my grandparents. What a wonderful find!

My new rule – don’t check social media when you are on vacation! I put one little comment that was just kind of an “I agree and here’s why” kind of comment, and it ended up consuming a lot of my free time as I tried to compose some thoughts and tap them in with my phone, something that teenagers seem to be a lot more adept at than Mr. Pete and I. Anyway, if you didn’t see it, here’s that discussion.

At the end of May, I worked a wedding at my church. There were probably close to 150 people there, no one wore a mask, and there was very little social distancing. I was just sure that if someone was going to get COVID-19, it would have been with that group. As far as I know, no one got it and neither did I.
This weekend I will be working with an entirely different crowd. I know that masks have been made for the bridesmaids that match their dresses! I also know that I will have to wear a mask this time as well. (I have my scarf masks that I got on Amazon so I can pull it up at anytime, but I was waiting to take my cues from the family.) I’m just wondering if the bride will wear a mask and what that will look like. If she does, that truly will be a first for me!
After that wedding, Mr. Pete and I are traveling quickly to another wedding that same day. We’ll probably just going to make the reception. I will have mask on hand and Mr. Pete will have his, but we’ll have to see when we get there what that will look like.
I’m not fearful, but I am cautious. At the same time I feel that we’ve giving up so much for this virus. Some of those things I’ll never get again, like Noah’s last college play, his last choir concert and his graduation. I’m not going to let fear keep me from living my life.
