  1. Miss C. is doing very well in Grandma School. She is not quite 6 years old yet, but she can count to 100s by 1s, 10s and 5s. She can also count by 2s to 14. She is able to read stories from the Pathway Readers, Primer level.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, The Pathway Readers are delightful little reading books, at least in the early elementary level, written primarily for little Amish Children. The stories are set on an Amish farm and are universal when it comes to the problems kids can get into.

A few weeks ago we had our opening homeschool mass, and each child was asked to bring a book to the mass, representing their school work, for a special blessing. Miss C. proudly brought her reading book and it received a proper Catholic Blessing. The significance of an Amish reader being blessed in a Catholic Church was not lost on me!

2. I try to use funny and interesting videos in my Logic and General Science Classes. As I was preparing for my class this week, I came across this very interesting video by an attorney on the accuracy of the movie, My Cousin Vinny!

Then for General Science, this funny video from Monty Python highlighted what could go wrong when applying the Scientific method!

3. Looking for a sweet romantic comedy to watch with your daughter? Tall Girl on Netflix fits the bill! It has all of the sweetness and romance, yet it’s full of teenage angst about trying to fit in and finding yourself. The ending is very satisfying! Izzy and I gave it two thumbs up!

4. Noah is running at the All Catholic College Cross Country meet this week at Notre Dame in Indiana. I have always wanted to go to this, so I’m sad that this is my last chance and I’m not going to be there!

Last year, Noah finished 74 out of 79, but to give you some perspective, the slowest guy ran 5 miles in 35 minutes at a 7-something per minute pace. It’s crazy fast! I’m just proud of Noah for being a good enough athlete to participate!

5. Here’s something my fellow Boomers will appreciate. A Very Brady Renovation – the cast of the Brady Bunch teamed up with the stars of HGTV to renovate the home we all know as the Brady House into what we all remember from the t.v. show, and the results are impressive!

6.

I heard this author, John Bergsma, talk about his book on the Al Kresta program this week. With solid research and references, Mr. Bergsma writes about the significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls and how they point to Christ. It was a fascinating interview!

You can here it here.
