Outside My Window

I am thankful…

About a couple of milestones we hit last weekend.

First, it was the 10th anniversary of my mother’s death. I still think about her every day. I wonder what she would think about Miss C. I wonder what advice she would give me for each of my children. I pray for her soul and I ask her to pray for me. For a long time after she died, I could physically feel her with me. It’s difficult to explain, but there was a feeling on the left side of my body that I could experience when I thought of my mother. It’s the feeling you get when someone is standing close to you but you haven’t seen them yet. It’s there sometimes but not as strongly now.

I am also aware that most of my mom’s serious health problems started in her 60s, the decade I just entered.

Also, my girl left her teens behind and is now 20.

This beauty is 20 years old today. She's my lovely daughter, gifted artist, and wonderful friend. I'm so proud of her! Happy birthday Izzy.

Part of the loneliness I felt after my mother died has been filled by this girl. She is smart and funny and we have great conversations. She is my support and my confidant. I think her 20s are going to be amazing.

And just to brag on her a little bit, she has saved enough money that when she got a little back from her tax refund this year, she invested it. I wish I had been as savvy with money when I was her age.

I am thankful…

I am thankful that we had so much community support in bricking our back yard, mostly from young neighbors who helped us haul brick to the back. Special shout out to Ahmad and Annabelle!

I am going…

In the kitchen…

I think we will do some grilling tonight and then I want to marinate some chicken for tomorrow and Wednesday. After that, I’m going to have to hit the grocery store.

From the Learning Rooms…

Rosie is reading Sense and Sensibility and some Physical Science to get a full high school credit.

Miss C. is doing a little math with her Master’s Books first grade math.

One of my Favorite Things…

A quote to share…O happy Mary of happy merit, who deserved to be the first of mortals to see the Son of God rise from the dead. For the love of him, you despised the allurements of the world. Commend us to him, we beg you, by your assiduous prayers that we may enjoy with you, O Lady, his most happy presence. From a Matins responsory in the Dominican tradition for the feast of St Mary Magdalene.

Sir Thomas More:
When statesmen forsake their own private conscience for the sake of their own public duties they lead their country by a short route to chaos.
