Outside My Window
I am thinking…
I am thinking…
I am thankful…
that we made it back from Oklahoma even after having our tire disintegrate at 70 miles per hour in the fast lane.
I am pondering…
Gray hair.
There’s two ways to think of going gray. One is that it is part of the normal biology of a woman, along with aches and pains and growing more frail that makes her disappear into the background.
or…
There’s wearing that gray like a boss and standing out strong and fierce. My sister-in-law is a boss at that. She looks amazing with her gray.
I have this fantasy that I do too – and then mother’s day kind of makes me think I’ve faded more into the wallpaper than I had imagined.
And then I think about my mom. When she finally let her hair go all white it was beautiful. And though she was not boisterous by any means, she was a force to be reckoned with. I’m going to have to think about how she did that. I miss her. Very. much.
One of my Favorite Things…
I have been a soccer mom for 26 years. I started when my oldest was 4 years old. In that time I have never, ever seen one of my kids kick a goal. They have of course, but I never got to witness it.
The very first time one of my kids kicked a goal, my oldest was in 2nd grade. For some reason instead of going to his game, I decided to help one of my clients move her medical office to a new space. He kicked his first ever goal. And 12 years later my client let me go… so that was a dumb choice.
One time I remember getting my second son to his game late. I pulled up to the field in my van, let him out. He proceeded to run to the field, got the ball and scored immediately. I missed it, because I was parking the van.
Then with the Saturday Soccer League and having multiple kids on multiple fields, I never managed to be at the right place at the right time to see one of my kids score.
Until Saturday, when Rosie kicked the winning goal of a shoot off during the play offs.
In the kitchen…
I think hamburgers. I’d like to grill them but it rains all. the. time. so probably just fix them on the grill.
I am wearing…
My workout clothes
I am going…
- To try to get 6 or 7 miles in on the elliptical at least four days this week.
- to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan recommendations and Intermittent Fasting.
- Working on the “lose the mummy tummy” goal. I’ll be documenting that more in a special e-mail list. If you’d like to follow the ups and downs of that, click here.
- More flute practice this week to prepare for my nephew’s wedding and some memorial services.
- Starting to plan for next year’s homeschool.
- Give Rosie the standardized test probably today.
- Plan Miss C’s first grade year – I have the official okay from her mama that I will be teaching her next year.
Finished her Tolkien writing class and got an A on her weekly work and an A on her final paper, as well as her presentation.
And then she helped me make this cute craft so that I could use it with Miss C. for Caps for Sale!

A quote to share…
From my late teens onward, the relationship between my mother and me improved steadily. As the years progressed, I enjoyed her more and, yes, loved her more. Unless either an adult child or a parent has serious psychological issues, I am convinced that what I experienced is quite common. There is an enormous amount of luck — good and bad — in life; and one of the greatest pieces of good luck for a parent (and child, for that matter) is for parents and children to have the time to work things out.
