Outside My Window

I am thinking…
26 years ago today, I traveled an hour away from my home to ensure that I would have a chance at a natural childbirth. After a few threats from a somewhat less than helpful midwife, I was able to give birth to my second son vaginally. That it happened on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade seemed like a victory as well.

I am thankful…
Today my son is a budding entrepreneur with a new micro-eatery. He works hard and people have been raving about his food. I think he may have a hit on his hands!

I am pondering…

The ongoing state of birth in this country. It was bad enough that 26 years ago I had to travel an hour away while I was in labor just so that I could try for a VBAC. Today moms are not still fighting for their right to birth naturally , but the maternal morbidity rate is rising, especially for women of color.

One of my Favorite Things…

In the kitchen…
It’s going to be a weird kitchen week. I’m having oral surgery on Tuesday, so I doubt I’ll be eating much. I’m hoping my daughters and Mr. Pete will pick up the slack a little to nourish themselves!

I am wearing…
Black pants with a purple sweatshirt. It’s actually cold around here!

I am going…

  • Arms and abs this week while I wait for the arrival of my new elliptical. I guess that’s going to be my go-to aerobic activity for a while.
  • PrayMoreNovenas.com  the rosary more this month.
  • to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan recommendations and Intermittent Fasting.
  • Working on the “lose the mummy tummy” goal. I’ll be documenting that more in a special e-mail list. If you’d like to follow the ups and downs of that, click here.
  • More flute practice this week getting ready for the 7 Last Words of Christ.
  • Prepare my labs for Wednesday for my science class.  I am providing all the materials for experiments, but I have a guest teacher since I am having oral surgery the day before.  If you want to see my Youtube Channel or syllabus for Physical Science sign up for my e-mail list.
  • Getting a knee plan from my doctor after he speaks to his surgeon friend… ugh.
From the Learning Rooms…
Miss C.
Five In A Row

This might be a good book to introduce the subject of slavery to young children. Miss C. was unfamiliar with that and I explained little bits as we read the book.

Since this book is also about stars and constellations, we spent some time going over this book too!
