While I was reading Facebook last week, an ad popped up for a company called Rev.They provide all kinds of transcription and they were looking for more transcriptionists. I took the grammar test and then the transcription test on Saturday. By Tuesday I got the email, “Welcome to Rev.” I have transcribed enough to be 30% of the way through my probationary period. Hopefully, by next week, I will be an official “Revver!”

This is still different than my old job of medical transcription. There are all kinds of dictation. I transcribed a magazine interview this week with an entrepreneur who opened a nightclub. I also transcribed some customer service phone calls and an interview with a rugby player. So the jobs are varied and I think it will be interesting work.

Best of all though, I can work whenever I want for however long I want. There are no minimums. The pay goes directly into my Paypal account every week. I think this is going to be a good gig for me!

Tis the season of Christmas concerts. I have a number of concerts to play in the next few weeks before Christmas, and then, of course, I am playing at least two Christmas masses.

I’ve been given music to play by a few music directors who apparently have complete faith in me and my eyesight because last Sunday I practically sight read this.

Advent and Fall

Then later in the week, I played a piece that I had absolutely no context for. I didn’t know the instrumentation, I didn’t know which voices would be singing, I didn’t even know the melody. I just knew my part but not where it fit musically into the whole thing. So I just practiced it like notes on a page. Turns out it is with a lute and full choir with the organ at the end.

Never a dull moment.

The night before Thanksgiving, one of my teeth was throbbing. It woke me up. I’ve had a broken molar for a couple of months but it didn’t bother me until that night. I took Aleve, and rinsed it with saltwater and Listerine and I haven’t had a problem since, but I know I have to get some dental help.

I’ve got an appointment tucked in between my last concert but 12 days or so before Christmas Eve. Hopefully, I’ll be recovered enough from whatever is going to happen to be able to play!

Over at Lifeofahomeschoolmom.com they are having a great giveaway.

2018 Homeschool Thursday
These items are all free!  Simply give them your e-mail and you have access to the products.

Most of the products are for the early elementary age I would say, but this particular resource intrigued me.

I have written before about teaching General Science to middle schoolers at our homeschool Co-op.

Middle School Advantage Sets

The very first chapter of General Science deals with scientists in history. I think these Inventors in History, Person of the Day Cards from Peanutbutterfishlessons.com would be perfect for that unit and would help make that topic more interesting for the students.

I re-vamped my General Science Syllabus. If you’d like it for free, just sign up for my newsletter here.

I forgot to mention that a few months ago we made the big move and cut cable t.v.! Our bill was too high and there were only a few shows that really wanted to see anyway.

With Roku we can watch what we want, when we want on Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu. The set up is super easy. If you’re looking to try something new this year with your home entertainment, Roku and viewing on demand are the way to go.
