Outside My Window
I am thinking…
how nice it was to see my good friends and their family over the weekend. It was nice to celebrate with them too.
Also about the legacy of Justice Kennedy. First of all, that sure came out of the blue didn’t it?! I thought Justice Ginsberg would be next because she is 85 and she has been battling cancer for years. Mr. Pete says it shows that this can’t be a very taxing job if you can keep doing it into 80s! I pointed out that she just hired 4 law clerks, and I’m guessing most of them are under 40. I could keep going too if I could hire unlimited help.
Al Kresta had a great conversation about Justice Kennedy and you can listen to that here.
I am thankful…
that I got to see another set of good friends on Saturday before we came back home.
And I’m very thankful that the three kids we left home managed to keep the house standing, get themselves fed, and got to work without any problems at all. They even took care of their little sister and their little niece without a problem.
I am pondering…
how much I dislike my house when it is so hot outside. It was built in 1928 and does not have central air, so the only place that is bearable is next to the air conditioner upstairs or in the cool basement.
One of my Favorite Things…
summer walks during cross country season.
I am hearing…
the hum of the airconditioner
In the kitchen…
burgers on the grill
I am wearing…
blue shorts and a gray T shirt.
I am going…
- Walking, exercising, weight lifting and ab work as much as possible.
- add some additional novenas next year with the help of PrayMoreNovenas.com. Currently on St. Maria Goretti. I’m also reading this.
- to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan recommendations and Intermittent Fasting. The longer I fast, the more it seems like work to actually eat! I only do one or two meals a day now.
- Practicing the Bach Sonata for flute alone.
- Firming up my class for Physical Science in my co-op.
- Writing my book proposal
I’m actually listening to it on Audible while I’m walking in the morning.
From the Learning Rooms…
Maryrose:
- Read Shakespeare’s plays and poems.
- Read explanations of Shakespeare’s plays or easier versions in addition to the real thing.
- Listen to Shakespeare’s plays on audiobook.
- Watch movies of Shakespeare’s plays.
- Teach or narrate what is learned to a parent, sibling, or friend.
- Write a 5-paragraph essay, compare/contrast essay, literary analysis, or descriptive essay every week based on the lessons studied.
- see a live Shakespeare play.
- Memorize more scenes and monologues than are included in the course.
- Finish reading and doing all the activities from How to Teach Your Children Shakespeare.
- Read, watch, or do other suggestions listed in the Appendix section of this course.
So far I would say this is a good course for upper elementary students. Rosie is enjoying it but I am supplementing it a lot because I also want her to get a good overview of Shakespeare’s work. This course focuses mostly on a Midsummer’s Night Dream.
Still, it gives a good foundation in iambic pentameter and memorization, so I think this is a good course for getting the basics down.
We are particularly enjoying this book
This week we are moving on to Romeo and Juliet!
Last week we watched MacBeth courtesy of Amazon Prime.
ME!!
I will be listening to lectures from the 2018 Homeschool Mom’s Conference – with a particular interest in the Work From Home Track. I’m also taking a new affiliate marketing course from Pajama Affiliates.
A Picture to Share…
Not a great picture, but with our first goddaughter at her brother’s wedding over the weekend.
