1. Last year I taught General Science at our homeschool co-op. Next year I will be teaching the follow-up course- Physical science. I started making my syllabus this week. We only have 24 weeks of co-op – so it’s a little tough to get the entire course in – but not impossible if they follow a syllabus!

Middle School Advantage Sets

I have last year’s General Science course syllabus as well as the Youtube channel with all of the movies we watched with the course. I’ll be sharing those links with my e-mail subscribers in the coming weeks as well as the Physical Science syllabus. If you’d like to be included in that, sign up here.

2.  At one time, the Simon Perkins estate was the largest sheep ranch east of the Mississippi. This was around the 1840s. John Brown, the famous abolitionist, worked on the estate and presumably with the sheep.

For the last several summers they have brought sheep back to “Mutton Hill” and they have been keeping the yards nice and trim, just like they did over 100 years ago.

The girls and I went to see them in action last Wednesday. They brought in a couple of border collies and the trainer put them through their paces. It was fascinating.

Our favorite part was the new 16-week old puppy. Just like any other pup, this one was cute and wiggly and not particularly interested in anything other than hugs, kisses and doggy treats. But a couple of times I saw his genetics kick in and he looked totally focused on the sheep and getting them to move. That only lasted for 30 seconds or so, but when it happened it was great. They are going to have a couple more of these sessions and I hope we can go back.

3.  Izzy passed her driving test! This changes my life greatly! No longer will I have to work my schedule around taking her to work and picking her up. I really enjoyed our rides and the conversation, but it’s great that she will have some independence.

4.  Rosie is running with the high school girls this summer. She’s really lucky because it’s a nice group and they have been very welcoming to her. Next weekend they have invited her to pancakes and swimming after practice! She won’t be officially part of the high school team until next summer, but it’s nice that she is making those connections early!

5.  June is the month of the Sacred Heart. I blogged about the ones we made a few weeks ago. Yesterday, I found these awesome T-shirts! Very appropriate for this month.
