Can I ask a quick favor? If you’re on the blog, could you go over to my right sidebar and take part in that poll on top. I’m trying to figure out more about my reader demographics and it’s just asking what age group my readers fall into. I’d really appreciate it thanks!

1.  This is my dog, Sophie. She is 10 years old. She has always been a little skittish. When we first got her as a family pet, she took an immediate liking to Noah and would go with him wherever he went and insisted on sleeping in his room. She wanted to be wherever he was. Eventually, she warmed up to the rest of the family – except for my husband. She has always been afraid of him and I think it is because he has a beard. The man we bought her from had a beard and I have always wondered if maybe he abused her in some way.

Anyway, whenever Mr. Pete comes home, Sophie sounds the alarm – “He’s back, he’s back!!  Run, hide, panic!”  Over the years, Mr. Pete has tried to win her favor. He will try to tempt her with tasty morsels of food and she will be so conflicted. She wants the treat so badly, but she doesn’t want it FROM HIM!!

Sophie was great with Rosie when she was a little girl, and now she is also a good dog with Miss C.

For a dog who is not allowed on the furniture, she looks pretty comfortable.

In Sophie’s mind, if there is a choice between Fight or Flight – she’s going to go with flight every single time. She is not a fighter.

Until last week.

She hates going to the Vet. Hates it. As soon as we got to his front door, she put down all four feet and we had to drag her into the place. I hate taking her but all of her shots were overdue and she doesn’t do well at all with flea bites, so I had no choice but to get her in early in the season.

We were smart though. The Vet gave Noah a muzzle to put on her and he took her back for her exam and shots. A few minutes later the Vet came back visibly upset. She had pulled out of her collar, gotten the muzzle off and bitten our nice Veterinarian. I was so embarrassed! And then I was mortified because, in her effort to escape from the Vet and the assistant, she had bitten her own tongue and was bleeding from her mouth.

I don’t know if I will be allowed to ever bring her back there and if I do maybe I’ll ask if she can be sedated somehow first. She was also visibly ticked off at us when we got home. Two days later Noah left for Rome and I thought her heart would break. She wouldn’t eat and she got a little constipated. She wouldn’t let us pet her, but she appears to be over that now. You would think that at 10, she would have this vet thing all figured out. I’m afraid she has – but not in the way I would have wanted! Maybe when Noah gets back, she’ll feel better.

2. Speaking of Noah – he captured a picture of this guy and put it on Instagram!

3.  I had Miss C. for a few extra days this week, and she went with me to pick out and plant flowers. I hope when she looks back on her childhood, that is a nice memory for her. We put them right in front of the Mary statue. Next week, I’m going to paint my windows! I’m not sure if I will let her help with that. Maybe she can chalk up the driveway while I work.

4.
Rosie had her end-of-track season ice cream party. She got four medals and a couple of ribbons for the events she ran in the last two weeks of the season. Her coach also gave her the MVP award for her season. At each meet she ran the 1600, the 800 and the 4 x 200 relay and she did it without complaining (much). I think it was a good experience for my distance runner to try out her sprinting skills. I am looking forward to a great cross country season.

5. Spring is finally sticking around here in Ohio! It’s hard to believe but just 5 weeks ago, we had snow on the tulips outside! Nonetheless, because the nice weather is finally here and Easter is over,  I put this wreath up on my back door. I blogged about that a few months ago. If you’d like one for yourself, click the link above.

Izzy took her test for her driver’s license last week. In the state of Ohio it used to be that if you didn’t want to take Driver’s Ed (because let’s face it – it’s quite expensive. Most courses are at least $200 and up!) you could wait until you were 18 years old, take the test and get your license. If you didn’t pass the test, you waited a week, and then you could take it again. There were no extra fees or costs.

That has changed.

Izzy is 18, almost 19. She passed the written portion of her test with flying colors. But she kept hitting the cones on the maneuverability portion so they did not pass her. Because of a new law, she had to plunk down $80 to take an online course and then she could either pay to drive around 4 hours with an instructor or drive with a licensed driver over 21 for 24 hours. She opted for that.

The reason for this new law was “safety.” But I think there was a huge lobbying effort to try to recoup some of the dollars they were missing when these kids opted out of driver’s ed.

Izzy paid for the course with her own money and finished it in a week. She’s been driving every day to work and back. Hopefully, she will have her license next month.

7.  Next week, I am going to tell you about an online homeschool convention. It’s affordable, it’s fun, and it’s completely online. AND… I am one of the featured speakers!   Stay tuned for more info next week. But as always- my e-mail readers will be notified before anything is posted on the blog.
