I am thinking…

Every year on President’s Day I give my students a chance to get out of school work by memorizing all of the presidents! One year, Noah actually accomplished that task (although he gets muddled up with all those one-term presidents in the 19th century when asked to recite them now). So today, Rosie will attempt to do that. So far, she can get all the way to Andrew Jackson.

So here are some tools that can help with that task.

Presiden’t’s Day Copy work and Dictation

President’s Day Lap Book

Presidents, Statess and Capitals CD

I am thankful…

I got this in the mail on Saturday. Apparently, my mortage bank decided to take our escrow money and pay off the loan. In full! I originally thought our last payment would be in September. Then when I called on it they told me April. So this was a nice surprise!!

Mr. Pete was fixing the toilet on Saturday. He had to unbolt it from the floor and fix the mechanism inside. As he was kneeling there sawing off one of the bolts that had become solidly fixed to the floor after little (and not so little) boys dripping urine on it for two decades, I mentioned to him that the bolt, the toilet, in fact the entire bathroom was now 100% ours!  Somehow, that made the task just a little bit more enjoyable!

I am pondering…
My oldest son told me that he has a chance to advance in his department. Apparently, there are different specialties of paramedic. For example, there are paramedics who only ride in helicopters and airplanes with critically ill people. My son considered that once but figured because of his size, he would be too big to do that.

So instead, he is going to apply for the SWAT Team paramedic. He told me that the fifth guy that goes in with the SWAT Team into a situation is the paramedic! He would get gun and range training (which he absolutely loves!) and take hand -to-hand combat courses. Of course he would also have to keep his paramedic skills up and pass an agility test. To that end, he has been working out every day, running hilly trails and has dropped 25 pounds.

The upside for him is the excitement, the gun training and the self-defense, as well as the chance to work on some really exciting and challenging cases. There is also a significant pay increase. The downside is of course the danger.

I’m happy that he has a chance to do something I know he is well suited for. But as his mother, I have concerns.
