I am thinking…
People will show you very readily where you fit into the priorities of their lives. Don’t go by what you think relationships should be, or how you wish they were – go by the reality of how things really are.
And on the same note, if someone is important to you- take the time to show them as well as tell them. Which reminds me that I have some letters to get out next week – particularly to a very special aunt.
I am thankful…
for the wisdom and clarity that comes with age.
I am pondering…
these thoughts came about from something that happened at a wedding I was working a few months ago. A man walked into the church about 45 minutes before the wedding. He was a large heavy set gentleman who had a little trouble walking. He asked me where he could sit. The church was literally empty, and I was busy with all of my pre-wedding duties. So I smiled and waved my arm and said, “Oh just sit anywhere.”
It never occurred to me that this guy would figure that meant in the second pew on the bride’s side where the mother of the bride usually sits! When I saw that I was mortified. I delicately went over and told him that was where the mother of the bride would sit and he immediately got hostile. “You said I could sit anywhere and I want to sit here!” he growled.
I’ve been doing this long enough, and I’m old enough to know that sometimes, you just can’t talk people out of what they want to do and they just have to face the consequences of their actions. It wasn’t long before his relatives and friends went up to him and had a few words. Then I watched him slowly and grudgingly move a few seats back.
It immediately reminded me of this passage in the bible from the book of Luke.
I think that is a good lesson to learn and remember in daily life. Don’t expect to receive invitations, announcements, confidences, compliments, cards or recognition just in general. Then if these things come your way, graciously accept them. But to expect them as a “due” is just a set up for disappointment and heartache. Lent is a good time to start examining these relations and focus on the main relationship in our lives- the one we have with God.
With that in mind, I think the word I am going to keep in my mind this Lenten season is humility and what that means, and how I can use that to further my relationships in Christ
One of my Favorite Things…
I just love this – so in honor of Valentine’s Day I’m sharing this- keep your eyes on the conductor! Such enthusiasm, such a unique style, and such a strong down beat! (after the two measures of 4 preceding it!)
I am hearing…
Computer humming along
In the kitchen…
Roast beef one day, not sure about the others yet – especially Wednesday although I’m thinking pea soup and bread (for my gluten eaters).
I am wearing…
My jammies. Was hoping to wear a red dress tomorrow to my concert but since I still have to wear my knee sleeve that won’t be happening.
I am going…
- Upper body workouts and core for now until my knee is back to normal. Now I’m wondering if that is going to be IF my knee ever gets back to normal. Knee where the tendon inserts is still sore and has very little strength to it. I’m going to work on knee strengthening this week – hopefully without PT
- add some additional novenas next year with the help of PrayMoreNovenas.com
- to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan recommendations and Intermittent Fasting.
- Preparing my general science lesson for Wednesday. I have a few experiments to run this week.
- Going to my girls’ choir concert this afternoon.
- Keep practicing my recital pieces.
- Concert with Peace Together Choir Monday
From the Learning Rooms…
My Granddaughter is in the Five-in-a- Row curriculum at Co-op and we try to follow through on the days she is with me.
We had a snow day last week so the kids don’t have co-op. This week in Five-in-a-Row they will be reading
Maryrose:
Rosie is also taking a writing class online using the Once Upon a Time Saint series as the writing
prompt.
We have a schedule! Rosie writes her history paper every Monday based on what she has read in her history the week before. Also on Monday, she reads her assignment in Once Upon a Saint. Then on Tuesday she writes her assignment for that class and turns in her paper. Thursday is for revisions. But next week Rosie will get a break from writing because her teacher had a baby!
This semester she is also going to do drama.
