Today is the 100th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun, the 6th apparition of the Fatima. We are honoring Mary on our dining room table today in this way for this anniversary.

Two excellent books on the topic:

Next week I am taking my General Science Class to a nearby cemetery to observe the wear and tear of the elements on the old sandstone grave markers. As luck would have it, there is also a big tree pushing one of the headstones over!  Since we are studying geology, this will be a very useful exercise!!

This particular cemetery has veterans from the Revolutionary War, as well as some stones from what they are calling the “Black Death” cemetery. I’m really looking forward to taking them there!

Noah was considering withdrawing from one of his classes because the research paper he is supposed to write is getting the better of him. But before he did that, he went to speak to his professor. They looked up his grades at midterm and it turns out he has an A- in the class!

I told him that students with an A- don’t withdraw; they finish!!

So with the help of his professor, he tweaked his research topic and he now feels a little more confident about finishing.

I think when it comes to academics, Noah doesn’t know how NOT to succeed and when he is doing work that he feels is not his best (i.e. the minus part in his A-minus grade) he thinks he is failing. In this way, he is a lot like I was when I went to school. It took me many years to be happy with “good enough.”  This is probably something he is going to have to learn on his own.

Rosie wants to be Audrey Hepburn for Halloween. She loves her style and the photos we have looked at Rosie even reminds me of  Miss Hepburn when she wears her pencil thin black pants and black shirt. So we watched Breakfast at Tiffany’s this week, free on Amazon Prime.

It was interesting, in an awful kind of way.

We hated it. Turns out it’s about two young people who are prostituting themselves to survive in New York City.

Hoping we have better luck with Sabrina.

But the one I’d really like to watch with her is, Wait Until Dark!

This week Rosie runs in the CYO Championships. I don’t think she is going to medal, but I’m hoping that she can at least break into 13-minute range for the 2-mile.
Rosie Hudson springs 2017 XC 057
It’s a difficult line to walk. I want to prepare her for possibly not getting a medal, but at the same time, I don’t want to discourage her.

Funny things happen at these championships. Izzy’s very first year of running the coach told her that only the top 15 would get ribbons, and she made sure she was in that top 15. That was the one and only time she ever won a running award! She shaved a full minute off of her time.

So maybe a miracle can happen for Rosie this weekend. We’ll see.

This week I did two posts on how I became a Health Care Consumer and not just a patient. Part one is here. Part two is here. I’ll be writing more on this next week.
