1. I have a love/hate relationship with Facebook. I love to see everyone’s pictures and read about their lives and watch the children grow. I love to be in touch with people I probably would not be in touch with except for this gift of social media. But unfortunately, Facebook also gives me the ability to see the views of family, friends, acquaintances, and others that I probably wouldn’t be privy to otherwise and sometimes that has been hurtful and a few times relationships have ended (on their part – I never defriend anyone).

But as much as I dislike that, just when I think maybe I should get off of Facebook, one of my friends will announce an intention to leave and I’m like, “NO!!! DON’T GO!!! I’ LL MISS YOU!”

So I guess I just have to understand the limitations of the medium and learn to work within those parameters.

2. Noah is taking a course called Food and Literature, or something close to that. What an intriguing title!!  He just got done reading Babette’s Feast and was sharing with us how much he enjoyed
reading that short story.

I know this isn’t college level, but I kind of hope that they look at Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Farmer Boy. The food in that book was described in very fine mouth-watering detail, which was part of its charm!

3. Izzy got a job at a local craft store. She starts next week! I’m very proud of her and I hope she has a good experience.

4. Co-op has been going very well. Last week in my General Science class we did an experiment that was designed to show how one variable in the experiment would affect the outcome. We were supposed to put an egg in a container of water and keep adding salt to it one teaspoon at a time to get it to float. It was a little tedious because we had to take the egg out each time and add only one teaspoon of salt. But after seven teaspoons (and with time running out) that darn egg was still not floating. So just for the heck of it, I just unloaded my salt container into the water and to the delight of my students, it floated!

Reading their lab reviews was hysterical because some of my older students criticized my lack of precision, but my daughter tells me that the reviews of my class are very positive. My goal for the class is simple- get them prepared for the rigors of a high school level course and peak their interest in science by making it fun and interesting!  What I lack in precision, perhaps I make up in enthusiasm!

5. Mr. Pete is going to have to fly out to the west coast soon to attend our nephew’s wedding. It’s a space wedding. In fact, guests are encouraged to wear their Star Fleet Uniforms if they have them. Mr. Pete does not. I’m sure I could probably rustle up a Chewbacca costume from Star Wars if he wanted, but he says if anything, he would prefer to go as Hans Solo.  However, since he is just flying out, going to the wedding and then flying back, he’ll probably just go as Mr. Pete.

I did tell Mr. Pete that the TSA has new “enhanced” security measures in place. He’s been working on his oneliners. I’m sure he’ll have some good stories when he returns

6. All of his life, Noah has had to put up with this:
“Hello, my name is Noah.”

“Oh, where’s your ark!”

or some variation of that. Usually, older people will make that quip but his peers will occasionally mention the bible patriarch when they first meet Noah as well. But what happened to him this week was a first.

Noah was introducing himself to a young lady in one his classes.

“Hi, I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Noah.”

to which the young lady replied,

“Like the Notebook!

Like I said, this was a first.

I found it charming. His sister thought it was swoon-worthy. His other sister wanted to know what was the big deal about a notebook.
