1.  Had a nice way to wake Noah up yesterday. He was sleeping in and I picked up the mail. There right on top of the stack was a letter for him from the Independent Colleges of Ohio letting him know that he had won a scholarship that he hadn’t even applied for! It seems that the financial aid office at school may have put him up for it because of his good grades and financial need!  Maybe they also took into consideration all of the scholarships he applied for last spring but didn’t get. The only down side is we do not know how much the scholarship is. It could be $100 or it could cover all of his needs for the next year. We just won’t know for a few weeks. It would be great if it were at least $500, but anything will certainly help.

2.  Noah would like to hold on to his part-time job during the school year. It will be challenging with work, study, running and choir, but I think he can do it if he really manages his time well. He did work-study last year and that worked.

Because he had some of his own money this summer, I had him pay for his own text books. I carefully purchased them from Amazon and the school book store, comparing each title for the best deals on either used or rental books. I was able to get everything for under $200, but it was good for him to invest in his own education that way.

3.  Cross country training has started in full force for Rosie. She had to drop the boys’ high school team to start working out with her own team. I can see on her face that she is happy to be back with her old running buddies. I can see in her stride that working out with the high school team was good for her too! And I’m happy to report the tedonitis is all gone. All it took was time, strengthening and stretching!

4.  I’m teaching General Science to Jr. high students this coming fall. I sat down and made my syllabus.  It’s a little difficult because our co-op only meets 24 times during the year, but our textbook is written for 30 or so weeks of instruction. This means that the kids are going to have to do some reading before school starts, during the breaks and about one week after the end of co-op. That’s the only way to do it and keep the lessons manageable!

Last semester I taught a 12-week Logic class.  The syllabus for that is free here.

5.  For the first time in over 20 years, I got a call from someone at the school board about my notification form! I turned in my notification yesterday and asked for a receipt. This request seemed to surprise the secretary I spoke with, because she didn’t have a receipt or form to give me. She quickly typed one up, printed it out, and stamped her name on it for me. Today she called to tell me that the district is developing a new policy and I would have to fax her a copy of my high school diploma.  I politely told her that I didn’t have a fax machine and that she would have to take my “assurance” (just as it says on the official form) that I had one! She thanked me.

Then I called HSLDA. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Happy birthday to my BFF, Twana Young!

6.  For the second time this week, I took Miss C. with me to mass in the morning. After I received communion, I noticed that she was not beside me or behind me. Instead she was standing there giving Father the stink eye, as in “Are you going to give me one of those or not?”  I quickly grabbed her arm and brought her to me. Then she pouted for the rest of mass.

There is never a dull moment with that girl!

7.  This week’s  Friday Freebie is  – The Super Scholarship Webinar!  It seems appropriate since Noah just won one of those this week.
