This sunflower popped up in my neighbor’s rock garden. It really reminds me of the parables of the seeds. This particular seed fell in rocky soil, but found just enough good dirt to put down some roots and grow anyway!

I am thinking…
about Izzy’s graduation and grad party yesterday. We were able to get in and set up her art work on Saturday afternoon, but it kept falling off of the wall!  Finally, with enough sticky stuff on the back (the stuff that comes off the wall clean but still holds your art to the wall) we were able to keep all of it on the wall throughout her grad party!

I am thankful…

to all the friends and relatives that came to Izzy’s party, or sent her a card. Special shout out to my sister who once more supplied lemonade and ice tea in her lovely containers.

I think my own grad party decades ago was the first time I was really moved by the expressions of love and appreciation by people outside of my immediate family.  I think the outpouring of love to Izzy this past week has made her feel very special, and I am grateful.

I am pondering…
many years ago, my great Aunt Dorothy sent out invitations to her youngest daughter’s graduation party. She made a note on the invitation that this was going to be the last graduation of that generation – that her daughter was the very last grandchild of Lowerta and Daniel!  I don’t know why I still remember that but it struck a chord with me. I guess I thought it was kind of neat to be the last of a long line of something.

But all these decades later, I think she did it as a way of getting the other cousins, aunts, and uncles to come to her party or acknowledge her graduation! And I totally get it.

By the time the youngest kids get to things like their high school graduations, grad parties have become “old hat” for their older cousins and their parents. Afterall, they have moved on to college graduations, marriages, baby showers and perhaps even the births of their own children. When it comes to a younger cousin’s high school graduation it’s kind of a been-there,/done- that already situation.

I’ve got one more to graduate  – and that’s  6 years away, so I worry about that. When the time comes, I think I’m going to try to explain it as the end of an era – there will be no more high school graduations for the grandchildren of Pete and Maryrose, or Isadore and Virginia. It truly will be the end of an era by then!

Best friends- 43 years.  This gal drove over 4 hours by herself to celebrate with us yesterday!  I’m so proud of her and grateful too!

I am hearing…
air conditioning.

In the kitchen…
well, we still have a lot of potato salad and meat from the sandwich tray I ordered for the party yesterday. I think we’ll just eat that!

I am wearing…
black skort, green shirt, taking Rosie to her sports physical today.

I am going…

  • to walk or work out every day with Pfilates .  I’m walking on the trail every day now, working in arms and abs.
  • to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan recommendations. I am still limiting carbs but I am really trying the intermittent fasting now. I fast for about 16 hours between 7 p.m. and 11 a.m.  and my walking time happens during those hours. So far, no problems.
  • Practicing Bach’s Sonata in E flat.
  • Plan my General Science class.
  • Handling registrations for our co-op.
  • Start planning my General science class

I am reading…

Started listening to this for the second time today.

This is an awesome book for anyone who wants to understand gender issues in this country and where we stand as a society.

    A quote to share…

The quote we picked for Izzy’s Diploma –

    Proverbs 3:5-6New International Version (NIV)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
        and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.[a]
