1. Last week, Mr. Pete and I were all snug and warm in our bed when C R A S H!!! My side of the bed frame totally gave out, our box spring and matress caved in at a 45 degree angle, and Mr. Pete came rolling over on top of me as gravity quickly took over. It was 4 a.m. and I remained groggy and willing to incorporate all of this into a dream and go back to sleep! But Mr. Pete’s side of the bed was standing almost completely up, reminiscent of the stern of the Titanic, so he shook me awake and we both hopped off.
That is how I woke up last Saturday morning!!
Unfortunately, after finding a place to rest in the basement, I couldn’t get back to sleep, so my day literally started then. Mr. Pete found a place on the couch and was quickly in slumber again.
Later in the day, Mr. Pete examined our bed frame. It seemed that the piece of wood that holds the box spring had been glued with a few nails and that after 30+ years of dry winter heat, the glue had finally failed. A quick trip to the hardware store, some more glue and heftier nails, Mr. Pete had the bed fixed and up in time for us to sleep again that night. He also reinforced the rest of the bed frame so that it wouldn’t give out somewhere else!
I told my older kids that they could brag to their friends that their parents, married some 37 years, broke their bed – at which point they looked slightly nauseous and said, “Ew… Yuck!”
2. Unfortunately, I had a big concert that day so I had some concerns. If I don’t get enough sleep, I am more vulnerable to scintillating scotoma, which makes it hard to read music or do much of anything else for about 30 minutes. I was afraid that just thinking about that might give me one, so I put it out of my mind and luckily nothing happened. I wish I could figure out what triggers those?
But our concert went very well – it’s one of the highlights of my season!
3. Rosie had a concert too last week – she sang like a little angel and looked like one too.
4. Calvin and Sarah were NOT going to be coming home for Christmas. I was resigned to it. I had Amazon send their gift – which was a starter set for their own nativity scene. I figured I would get them Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus, and then we could add to it every year, like a tradition.
I won’t say that I was sad that they weren’t coming. My sister and I have a unique talent of being able to build a wall over our hearts against disappointment. So I was resigned to them NOT coming for Christmas and had pretty much put it out of my mind.
And then my wonderful daughter-in-law wrote this last night on Facebook:
I have to admit, I got a lump in my throat and started feeling some real Christmas spirit stirring in my heart after reading this!
5. I’m still hanging in there with the Christmas Novena. If anything, being dedicated to this prayer 15 times a day reminds me that I need to become more disciplined in my prayer life!
I tried to discover the origins of this prayer and I could only find that it had the imprimatur Michael Augustine, the Archbishop of New York February 6, 1897. I sure would like to learn more about who wrote this beautiful prayer and how it came to be composed in the first place!
6. I am playing for midnight mass – and possibly the 9 and 11 on Christmas day but I don’t know for sure. I know my girls will want to sleep late on Christmas Day after being up so late, but it is Christmas day!! so they might wake up early. I’m thinking about maybe just doing 9 and then have the rest of the day free.
The Candlelight Carol I was so worried about two Christmases ago because it’s in E flat major- was a piece of cake at rehearsal last night. I guess I just need to perform things a few times for them to just become embedded in my nerve cells and quickly come back when I need them.
7. So I have been participating in the photo challenge over at Catholic Sistas. I’ve been trying to put something on Instagram almost every day, sometimes twice a day.
So I was totally blown away when I looked at my Instagram notifications and discovered that Trump/Pence was following me on Instagram!
Rosie thinks this is the photo that caught his “eye.”
