1.  As a consolation prize for a lot of things, (the end of the baseball season, the ups and downs of my runners’ lives, the never ending election season, the death of Glenn in the Walking Dead) I decided to finish binge watching The Good Wife on Amazon Prime.

I was curious to see how Jeffrey Dean Morgan was  as the love interest in season 7, because he is brutal and terrifying in his new role as Negan on the Walking Dead!

I was rewarded – the entire series is interesting and fast paced. The dialogue and the characters were interesting and the plot always kept me guessing. And it was nice to see Mr. Morgan as a lover instead of a killer.

2. But he’ll always be Denny to me.

3.  My next binge show-
The crown
 The Crown  on Netflix Original.

4.  Once in a while, I get this thing called scintillating scotoma. The first time I noticed this was right after I started wearing bifocals and I thought maybe my eyes were adjusting to the lenses. Then I thought maybe it was because I was taking Biotin, or maybe walking outside in the day light, or being on the computer too long. I honestly can’t tell you what triggers them, but I appear to be one of the lucky ones because I do not get a terrible headache afterward. It does, however, limit my ability to read for about an hour although I can do most everything else normally. Once I got one while I was two miles out on a trail and although it was a little difficult, I was able to walk all the way back and by then it was gone.

I had a hard time explaining this to my family, but I finally found some videos on Youtube that explain what this phenomenon is like.

The weird thing is, I haven’t had one in over six months, and lately I’ve had two in a week – so maybe seasons changing are a trigger?  I don’t know.

Some more good videos about this weird experience – here and here

5.  November is kind of a rough month for me. The anniversary of my only stillbirth is November 1. This year, I didn’t make it out to his grave site on the first because it was the middle of the week and I also had my granddaughter with me. So I went out the next day with some pretty flowers to put into the vase we have next to his headstone.

When I got to the site I knew immediately I was going to have a hard time pulling the vase out of the ground. Cemetery workers don’t seem to care much about how they put these vases away and they just cram them in and then run over them with the lawn mower. So my vase was stuck and I was standing there with flowers and a bottle of water.

I just laid them both there and called Mr. Pete.  He couldn’t get out there that day, but because of the cooler temperatures, the flowers kept okay and he was able to pull out the vase with the help of his tools, and send me a picture with his phone. All was right at our baby’s grave once more!

6.  Two more days for the plenary indulgence for the souls in purgatory!  Although I missed the first day, I’ve made it out to a cemetery for prayers all of the rest of the time. My favorite one is St. Vincent’s cemetery which is very old and has a lot of graves for civil war soldiers.

The front of the cemetery was listed as one of the most haunted places in Akron. I don’t believe that though, because Father Yahner, (the priest who cared for the cemetery in his later years and who instigated a bit clean up of the place to bring it back to its original beauty) is buried right there!  So I say a prayer at his grave site too!

7. It was so neat to read the congratulatory comments from Cleveland Indian fans to Chicago Cubs fans, and to read very gracious comments going in the opposition direction as well. In this political season, where the country seems so bitter and divided, it was nice to have a game like baseball bringing people together to cheer, laugh, cry, hug, congratulate and commiserate!

Oh sure there were a few stinkers out there that can’t think of anything nice to say. If it weren’t for evil thoughts and venomous words they wouldn’t have many thrills in life at all I suppose. They think they’re being “fierce,” but they’re just proving how truly pathetic and petty they are.

But kudos to my nephew who really put the whole thing into perspective in a truly beautiful Facebook post:

108 years the people of Chicago waited for a championship.
Here at last, in 2016, we are champions.
To the Indians you guys played one heck of a series! You should be proud of all the hard work and the heart you put into this season.
If there is anything that we can learn from this series is that we ought to never give up.
We need to fight for the things and people we love.
There is no great prosperity without incredible difficulty and anguish.
Love endures through it all.
So have faith in what you believe in. Fight until you have no more outs. Love until you are victorious.
The pro-life movement will be victorious. Have faith.
The evils of sin and death will not score more runs than our God.
Here, I will reveal why I love Chicago and why I love the Cubs.
108 and years that city, and my future city, anguished in pain.
Imagine God’s anguish to see us in joyful victory with him in heaven.
Imagine our fans in heaven cheering us to victory.
God awaits to gives us our rings of salvation.
This ring, unlike the ones given to the 25 men in cubbie blue will not decay, and what is more, all of us if we have faith, will receive this ring of victory.
So don’t give up Cleveland.
Don’t give up my fellow pro-lifers
Don’t give up my brothers and sisters in Christ.
God has already won!
