Outside my window…

I am thinking…
there have been four hugs in my life that will always stand out in my memory.

Two of those were from my mom.

The first was during the frightful time my grandfather got really, really sick and no one knew what was wrong with him. The resident told us that he was afraid my grandfather was going to die. I remember my mother just grabbing me in a strong hug and we cried on each other’s shoulders for a long, long time.

The second one happened during the last week or so of her life. The nursing home called to tell me that Mom had she developed a swelling in her jaw. When I came in to see it for my self, I saw that they had really downplayed it. The entire side of her face and neck were swollen.  I demanded that she be transported to the hospital. It was a good thing too because she had an infected gland in her neck and by treating her right away with antibiotics they were able to keep her airway clear and it spared her further suffering.

I remember when I walked into her ICU room, she was as weak as a kitten, but she opened up her arms and called me over for a big hug and thanked me for making sure she got the care she needed.

I am thankful…
that I had such a kind and caring mother. I’m also thankful for my strong grandmother. I know all of her examples weren’t good ones, but I also know that the mistakes she made came from a place of good intentions, and that counts for something.

I am pondering...
the idea of Bruce (Caitlyn) Jenner posing nude this summer. It’s not just that he wants to be a woman – what is more irksome is that he wants to be a 35-year-old woman!  Seriously, when was the last time the world got all excited to see a naked 65-year-old lady?

I am going…

• to walk or work out every day with Pfilates .
• to cut my carbs via the Wheat Belly Total Health: The Ultimate Grain-Free Health and Weight-Loss Life Plan  recommendations. 
• Have Noah drive down to where the AP World History Test is going to be so that he can do it by himself on Thursday.
• Take Noah’s Senior Pictures
• Take lots of prom pictures!!
• Go to my Godson (nephew’s) college graduation. 
• Play with the parish choir for Pentacost!

From the Learning Rooms…

In the homestretch now!  World History will be over this week- (Although the AP test is May 12!)


Noah- Senior

• Pre-calculus   Two or three more lessons
• AP World History     Test on Thursday!
• Government.  Plugging along – I saw him reading his text book during the track meet on Saturday.

• Piano – recital coming up
• Choir  – only a few more weeks. 

Izzy-Junior

• Algebra II   a few more lessons
• American History  2   We are up to reconstruction!
• American Literature  Animal Farm – which is a nice tie in with government!
• American Government in Christian Perspective (A Beka)
• Spelling
• Art Class
• Doing a Bravewriter writing class the next few weeks – what a giant step for Izzy!

Rosie 5th grade

• Saxon 65  Should be done this week!
