Outside my window…
These are flowers from my front garden, and I figured out how to make them the blog background!
I am thinking…
about a young couple who were both homeschooled about the same time as my oldest kids. They lost their three-week old baby girl last week and the funeral is today. The mother’s little sister has been friends with Rosie for a long time, so we will go to the funeral to show our support, but we will not be taking Miss C. My granddaughter has been to six funerals with us, but it’s just not appropriate to take a baby to a baby’s funeral – it’s just too painful. This time we go without her.
I am also thinking about a gentleman I see on my walks in the park when I am there walking while my kids are running. I saw him today, walking quickly and I said “Hi!” and asked him if he had had a nice winter. We usually do not speak to each other, we just wave, so I don’t know what made me speak to him today. But as it turns out he had a horrible winter. His son was murdered two months ago and he clearly wanted to talk about it once he got going. I felt badly that I had asked, but then again, maybe he needed to say something this morning. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit works in strange ways.
I am thankful…
that I am almost done with all of the NCAA things. I can’t turn any of it in until after graduation – which will be on June 12. Fingers crossed that I have filled everything out completely and satisfactorily!

Some of my favorite things…
I power watched all four seasons of Bate’s Motel and then watched Psycho with the older kids this weekend. What a great series! Well written, superb acting, and true to the original story while still adding new fresh characters and situations. Vera Farming does an excellent job of portraying Norma Bates, the desperate single mother trying to deal with the mental illness of her adolescent son.
Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates strikes just the right note between the sympathetic young man who wants to be a good man, and the psychotic killer we know he is turning into.
This series is not for little kids, but for older teens and adults who enjoyed the original movie, I think it’s worthwhile t.v.
“Parents do not have needs. You ever read the book The Giving Tree? It’s about this tree and this kid keeps coming and taking stuff from it his whole life until there’s nothing left but a stump and then the kid sits on the stump. That’s being a parent.”
Norma Bates

Fantastic quote- never thought of it like that but definitely sums up parenting!
