1.  Mr. Pete and I frequently have to do this thing called “Divide and Conquer, ” which is our way of splitting up and doing two different things in two different locations because the universe has chosen a particular date and time to have the activities the family is involved colloid simultaneously.

Such a thing happened last Sunday. Rosie’s championship meet was Sunday afternoon AND our Godson/Nephew, Paul,  was graduating from college. So Mr. Pete went to the championship and I went to the graduation.

This particular graduation was special to me. It was the first time I had ever been invited by any of my nieces or nephews, on either side of the family, to come to any graduation. Ever. So that alone made it event worthy. But this particular nephew is very special to me. When Sam and Gabe moved out a few  years ago within the span of a few days, and not under the best of circumstances, Paul started coming over almost every night for dinner. Together with the neighbor girl who later became my goddaughter, I felt that my table was full again and it really was a blessing to my soul. They filled a gap that shouldn’t have been there yet, and in a lot of ways ministered to me just as much as I ministered to them.

2.  Nonetheless, I missed seeing Rosie SMASH her PR times in both the 1600 and 800. She came in a respectable 4th and 7th place for the girls 5th and 6th grade division.

We have a joke in our family that our kids can only kick soccer goals when I’m not around. They have kicked many goals – I have never seen one of them in over 20 years of soccer games.

It may be that this translates to running as well and  PR times can only been annihilated if I am not present!  I must ponder this.

3.  Tonight is possibly Noah’s last run as a high schooler. He runs in Districts tonight in the 3200.

Noah is a very good runner, but not a great runner. But I also think that he will continue to get better with age AND with distance.  Sometimes I think the reason he doesn’t finish higher is because the races he is in aren’t long enough. It almost seems to me that by the time he’s 2/3 of the way done, he’s just getting revved up.  So I look forward to college and hopefully watching him run the 5000 for track and the 8K in cross country.

4. Here’s something that has me scratching my head. Track and field districts are this evening. Noah runs at almost 8 p.m.  NONE of the other meets have ever run this late, so I’m wondering if this is sort of unfair to the kids who have been competing in early evening and Saturday afternoon events. Since eating is an issue for these kids who want to be fueled but no filled, I just wonder about the wisdom of running something like the 3200 so late.

It also boggles my mind that with Track and Field District competitions this evening, several public schools around here are having their prom to night.  Who the heck thought that was a good idea? Noah is going with my goddaughter to her prom, but she has to go without him and he will meet her there, about an hour later after he competes, drives home, showers and changes.  And as an extra injustice – his ticke to the prom was $35. Maybe the planners for future years could consider their athletes before putting the prom on a big competition day.

5.  The end of the year piano recital is this weekend too. Sort of looking forward to that one though!

That said, I’m one of those people that feel kind of sad when everything is over and I can feel myself sliding that way a little now.  I did some research on line and discovered, that’s a real thing!  It’s called Post-Project depression or Post-event depression.  I first noticed this when I was a little girl and I felt kind of sad after my dance recitals. It was really bad after my first prom and my wedding. But every spring I feel it too and it gets a little worse now that my kids are older and their “last times” are truly “last times.”

6.   Because last Sunday was Pentecost, we did decorate our dinner table, even though we didn’t get to enjoy it as much because of all the other stuff going on.  Thanks CYO!
