1. You get your homeschooled student to do a respectable job on the ACTs, you have them take some CLEP tests and an AP course, you make a transcript, fill out some college applications, get accepted and you think it’s time to sit back… your job as a homeschool mom is just about over.
Not so fast mama – because if your kid wants to play sports in college you must now fulfill all of the NCAA homeschool eligibility forms. I swear there must be a demon in hell who inspired this type of torture. I’m wondering why if transcripts and ACT scores are good enough for the college, they aren’t they good enough for the NCAA?
To make a long story short, I will be spending a considerable amount of my free time over the next few weeks filling out forms with outlines, and course descriptions including text books for at least 16 core courses, starting from four years ago.
It’s not that I don’t have the information, it’s just that I have to now collect it all and type it onto those forms if I want him to be eligible to run next fall.
On the upside, this should work off some serious purgatory time.
2. I shared before my top 10 reasons to homeschool – and now I can add #11 – I don’t have to worry about my daughters sharing a bathroom with boys.
As the fates would have it, Izzy and I just finished reading Animal Farm. At the end of the novel the rules of the farm have been painted over and the words “All Animals are Equal. Some Animals are More Equal than Others” appear instead. I can’t help but wonder how the secret service or Michelle Obama would feel about a young man or boy going into the bathroom behind Malia or Sasha. Of course – they don’t go to public school do they…
And before any of my more liberal readers start berating me about the safety issues for the Obama girls that keep them from going to public school, let me just say that I’m old enough to remember when that icon from the left, Jimmy Carter, sent his daughter Amy to the Washington DC public schools while he was in the White House.
3. We are in the middle of prom and championship season. Today Noah runs in the City Championship in the morning, and escorts a young lady to the prom tonight!! He also purchased the corsage himself, bought his own dress shoes (at the discount store for $4!) and is paying for dinner. Welcome to adulthood Noah!
Tomorrow is Rosie’s championship, because, you know, in the Diocese of Cleveland we like to celebrate Pentecost with sporting events!?
4. The nice thing though is that Rosie is done with track practice. We were traveling 30 minutes a way, three times a week, way out in the country for this practice. There was no easy access to stores or the library. I felt literally stuck there for the 75 minute practice. I’ll be glad to get that part of my life back.
5. I got a late Mother’s Day Card from Calvin and Sarah. It was pretty, but the personal messages they wrote on the inside were very touching and sweet and it had the effect of putting a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes.
Those two are so cute together. I enjoyed their exchange on this picture I posted of Calvin on his facebook page. Sarah is not Catholic, so this is all new to her!
6. Next year marks the 100th anniversary of Fatima. When I was a kid Fatima seemed like it happened so very long ago. But in reality, my grandparents were alive when it happened. So I am giving myself a rosary challenge – to pray the rosary every day this year to celebrate the event.
7. I am just enchanted with this video. Happy endings do exist!
(and I enjoy the subtle jab in the Cruise direction.)

That is a great video. You can just see the love! Isn't it great that Nicole, Keith and Katie Holmes all returned to the Catholic Church?
