1. Spent New Year’s Eve debating with my very liberal brother-in-law on Facebook over the irony of this:

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Consider this.

Followed by a discussion on Twitter with a 20-something, gay girl about why it might be natural for Jessa Duggar’s husband, Ben Seewald,  to dream about playing ball with 15 sons since he is one of 7 siblings and she is one of 19.  She wanted to know “WTF ” was wrong with him, and I took that to be a legit question.  Turns out, it was rhetorical. Go figure.

It seems that people who post stuff like that don’t like to be challenged on it!  They want their free speech and if you disagree you should just keep it to yourself.  Funny thing that.

2.   Dr. Who’s Christmas Special was very gratifying.  It put Dr. Who (played by 57-year-old Peter Capaldi) back together with his wife, Professor River Song (played by 52-year-old Alex Kingston).  I enjoyed it for a number of reasons.  It was great to see two actors of my generation playing the romantic leads in something instead of just the support. The banter between Capaldi and Kingston was top-notch.

But the romantic in me swooned and wept when it was revealed that their last night on Darillium, together would last 24 years.

3.   We did go and see the newest Star Wars movie last week, and I was very happy that I knew what was coming beforehand, because it was kind of hard to watch.

SPOILERS

Hans and Lea did marry and have a child together who was very strong in the force and then went off to train with his Uncle Luke Skywalker.

Sounds like two strong people raising a good kid and then seeing that he received a great education right?

Then of course he falls to the dark side, breaks his parents hearts, tears apart their marriage and so devastates his Uncle that he puts himself into exile.

So in essence, the typical teen/young adult rebellion movie, on a galactic level.  Been there. Done that. Although there is solace, I suppose,  in knowing that even Hans and Lea had problems raising a good son.

4.  Netflix has some pretty good dramas out right now. Mr. Pete and I thoroughly enjoyed Jessica Jones (contains some sexual situations, although not nearly on the level of Orange is the New Black). David Tennant is the bad guy in that series and he’s wonderful in the role!

We also watched Odd Thomas which was funny, quirky and heartbreaking.

We’re currently watching River which so far, is very compelling.

5.  The first five minutes of River, Episode 1 has this song in it.  I don’t remember it at all, but I fell in love with it after the first hearing. If you are a disco fan, see if this doesn’t stay in your head all day! I guess it was a big hit across the pond, back in the day.

6.  I had a special treat yesterday. A lady contact me on Ancestry.com to ask about a picture she found a picture in her aunt’s belongings. There was a name on the picture and she searched for it on Ancestry and found me.  She sent me a copy of the picture and it turns out, that was a picture of my mother!

On the back is written, “To Great Aunt Rose.” According to my new friend, Rose was my greatgrandfather’s sister! I am so grateful for this new information and new contact!

7. For some New Year’s cuteness – Miss C. had a little friend, Jeremiah, over last week, and the girls taught them how to dance. I think Jeremiah has been watching Dancing with the Stars, because for a 2-year-old, his partnering is pretty good!

This is beyond cute Charlotte and Jeremiah wanted to dance together. And they both enjoyed themselves󾌵󾌧󾮟󾮗
