Employers and institutions of higher learning don’t often ask to see the high school diploma.  I’ve never been asked to show mine.  My oldest son was asked to show his before he was accepted into the City of Cleveland’s paramedic program, but NOT when he was hired as a paramedic in North Carolina.

But students are frequently asked and even required to submit their high school transcripts.  My second son, who just got a job as a cook in a higher end fresh market, asked me to have his transcripts ready because he thought they would ask for them. So far they haven’t. And of course my third son, Noah, will need his transcripts when he applies to colleges in the fall.

I do keep transcripts on my computer, but I wondered what would happen if I couldn’t access the computer, or if something happened to me and the kids couldn’t find what they needed in my computer.

That’s why I became a life member of the Homeschool Legal Defense Fund’s (HSLDA) Fast Transcript Service.  For $110, the transcripts for all of my students will be available on line.  All they have to do is print it out when they need it.  For an additional $12 they can have a more official transcript printed off and water marked.

It’s not fancy – there are other options for my creative looking transcripts and I even used a few of those for my older children. But for simplicity, convenience and getting the job done, this is a great option.  See a sample transcript here.
