Outside my window…
One of my absolutely favorite pictures that I have ever taken – check it out- both feet off the ground!
I am thinking…
about St. Jerome – who received the finest education his parents could give them and then as a young man chucked it all to fall in with a bad crowd and live a sinful life. According to Catholic Online:
He acquired many worldly ideas, made little effort to check his pleasure-loving instincts, and lost much of the piety that had been instilled in him at home. Yet in spite of the pagan and hedonistic influences around him Jerome was baptized by Pope Liberius in 360. He tells us that “it was my custom on Sundays to visit, with friends of my own age and tastes, the tombs of the martyrs and Apostles, going down into those subterranean galleries whose walls on both sides preserve the relics of the dead.” Here he enjoyed deciphering the inscriptions.
He was then able to pull it together, study hard and then translated the entire bible into Latin!
So a few things stick out for me in this –
- Piety was instilled in him at home – and eventually he found his way back.
- He was surrounded by pagan and hedonistic influences – much like our sons are today and…
- It was something that interested in – deciphering inscriptions, that at least kept him connected to his faith and brought him back.
I am thankful…
that there is still hope for my boys. The entire family came together last night to celebrate the Feast of the Archangels. And what kept them connected was that stupid chick and angel hair pasta recipe that they just love!!
St. Jerome – pray for us.
In the kitchen…
Next week, I am going to try to follow her cooking plan for one week and see how it goes. I will be blogging about it here.
I have been one year completely grain free – and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be!
I am wearing…
Still in my night gown!
I am wondering…
how much I will have to order from Amazon in the ingredients department. Stuff like almond butter etc.
By the way, I know a lady who does most of her grocery shopping on line via Amazon – that really intrigues me! I think I might start comparison shopping and see if that would be a good deal for us too.
I am going…
- to walk Monday – Thursday and try get some arm workouts in too.
- Let Noah have some big driving time! OK people- that means the express way which absolutely terrifies me.
- Take Rosie and Noah to their cross country practices.
- Pray the office with the children in the morning with divine office. com a habit!
I am pondering…
The end of the cross country season that looms in front of me – always a depression trigger for me. Still, I’m going to enjoy it for as long as I an. Noah has been running as the 6th or 7th man on varsity all year and has a chance to letter – I’m so proud of him.
From the Learning Rooms…
- Noah working on Instacert to get ready for the American History II CLEP test – think we will schedule that for after cross country season.
- Noah starting Algebra II, British Lit, biology and Latin 2
- Izzy working on Geometry, American History, American Literature, biology and sign language.
- Rosie working on math, reading, spelling, map skills and history.
- Izzy and Noah doing the Dave Ramsey course to meet their finance requirement for high school.
One of my favorite things…
- Get some flute practice done.
- That Noah will be ready for the CLEP in American History 3 within the next few weeks.
- Finish up on my my closet!
I am looking forward to...
