Outside my window…
I am thinking…
how lucky my sister is to be okay today!! Around 3 p.m. on Mother’s Day, she was going on a long bike ride with her husband – hoping to get in 25 miles or so. Sis and her husband, Mr. Bill, are excellent riders. They have all the right gear too – shoes that click into the peddles, biking clothes, gloves and helmets! They follow all of the rules of the road too. Apparently sis got hit from behind. An onlooker just happened to see her sailing through the air and called 911. Right now, that’s all we really know. The driver that hit her stayed and was quiet distraught. Some other drivers stopped to offer assistance. Police made a report.
Just as I was settling down with Rosie to watch a movie, Mr. Bill called me from the ambulance to give me the news. So the rest of Mother’s day was spent going to or from the hospital and riding in the ambulance with sis as she was transferred up to Akron’s trauma center.
I am thankful…
that the accident wasn’t worse and that sis is home and resting now. Praying that her concussion had no long lasting sequela and that her headache goes away soon. Sis was wearing her helmet, but she landed hard on her face – thus the headache and the chipped tooth.
In the kitchen…

workout pants and a top, because after this post, I’m going to do a quick video downstairs.
I am going…
- to workout tomorrow and Friday.
- Get some laundry caught up.
- Fill out a college application – for me! I have two associates and it’s on my bucket list to finish the four year since I am so very close!
I am pondering…
Whether or not to go ahead and baptize my granddaughter by myself. I have been known to do that before (and if you’re a friend of mine who let me watch your baby in the early 90s when you had no intention of baptizing him or her, I probably did it for you!)

I have to admit- the thought has crossed my mind for my infant grand daughter to just baptize her. I don't know that I could bring her up in the faith- which is a big part of why Catholics baptize their babies as infants (they are part of the community because we are a part of the community).
It is tough, really tough to just accept that she is their child and God knows what He is doing by placing her in their lives.
Thanks Janette. Could it not also be argued that God knew what he was doing by giving the child these grandparents? To make sure it gets done?
Have you discussed having the baby baptized? The parents do not have to be practicing Catholics to baptize a baby- but they have to promise to let the Godparents bring religion to her in their stead.
My granddaughter will not be baptized because it is viewed a a personal choice- against everything the NT states IMHO.
By baptizing a child without permission sort of negates the responsibility of the parents doesn't it? We are called to our faith and responsibilities that lay within that faith. If the role of parent is usurped- even by a grandparent- then do I lack the confidence of the gift of faith that I helped our children unfold within their lifetime? OW- tough stuff.
It is the role of the parent (according to the Declaration of Christian Education) to be the primary educators of their children- in faith. If they do not choose to baptize – then it is up to the child at the time that they can declare it for themselves (which is what I am banking on for my granddaughter).
I would not want to do something that would push my granddaughter from me- thus giving her no opportunity to grow in the faith on her own. At this point I expose her to every form of the Catholic Church possible and whisper prayers into her ear. To me it is better to take the chance of the fullness of faith in her later years then alienate her mother now.
Original Sin? I guess I wave that one for the babes- since my miscarried grandchildren were never baptized- but I feel are all in my Lord's arms. They had a soul- but they are not here with me now.
Believe me – i have argued this one ( and researched it) to death in the last 18 months.
I'm sorry you're going through that Janette.
I don't think my son and my granddaughter's mother are against baptism – I just don't think it is there priority. And I have mentioned it to them several times including letting them know when the classes were. This week they were going to go to the class but then they had to pick someone up instead and I offered to do that … but it was clear it just wasn't the priority.
My plan is just to do it in private and not let anyone know about it. That way I don't have to worry about what happens if something happened to her and I don't have to explain it to anyone else either.
Indifference is not consent. My convincing came at reading St Thomas Aquinas and Cannon Law. Can I do it, Yes. According to Cannon Law and Church teachings, should I do it, nope.
Tough stuff for me.
I've always been tempted to baptize my grandkids as well. At the very least I know I can do so if ever they're in danger of death. This was helpful for me:

My situation is different than yours because the parents aren't Catholic and don't believe in infant baptism.
Don't know if you've seen it, but my stepson wanted a book for his birthday about how kids today are more influenced by their peers than parents. It's by a Gordon Neufeld.
