I haven’t posted one of these in a while, but I thought this would be a good time to do so!

One of the most interesting skills I picked up last year was yogurt making. I had never made yogurt before and wasn’t even sure how to go about it. But when I read this article about SCD yogurt and how important it was for digestive health, especially with a history of colitis, I knew I had to give it a try.

This is the yogurt make I bought from Amazon – the Aroma AYM-606 8-Cup Digital Yogurt Maker

The directions were pretty clear.  To make the yogurt I heat 5 cups of milk up to 180 degrees, and then I cool it down in the fridge to 115 degrees.  While it’s cooling I mix 3 tablespoons of plain unflavored, unsweetened yogurt with 2 tablespoons of cool milk.  When the milk in the fridge is cooled, I mix it with the yogurt mixture and then I use a ladle to put the milk into the eight cups.  I put the lid on the machine and set the timer, and I’m done!

The timer only goes up to 16 hours and 59 minutes and SCD yogurt is supposed to go for 24 hours, so I just reset it for 7 more hours when the time is up.

When the time is up I put the lids on each individual cup and then I can store them in the refrigerator easily.

 I haven’t messed up a batch yet and I’m on my 5 the batch.  I ordered some extra cups (I had to order them directly from the Aroma company as Amazon didn’t have the right extra set for this maker) and now I can make yogurt before I run out completely.

The cups clean up in the dishwasher and the machine wipes down easily.  I’ve been very pleased with it.
