Outside my window…

The prairies, forests and fields are alive with color!

I am thinking…
about the colonoscopy I had on Friday.  I have to say that I am happy that it’s over. And it is also very freeing to know that I do not have any malignancies – which is the whole point of having a colonoscopy anyway.  The prep they had me do to prepare for the test was also not as bad as I thought it would be.

That all said, I’ve had pain, discomfort, bleeding and other problems ever since!! And the prescription they ordered for me to clear up some ulcerative colitis was over $500!!  So needless to say I didn’t pick it up so it’s almost as if they didn’t order anything.  I’m NOT so happy about that part. It wasn’t a very pleasant way to spend the weekend.

I am thankful…
for the get together we had yesterday with family and friends, to celebrate the Feast of the Arch Angels- something we have done every year now since Gabe was a very little boy.  Because of my medical issues, I wasn’t able to do as much as I have in the past, but we sill fixed our favorite Angel Hair Pasta dish and we talked about St. Michael, St. Gabriel and St. Raphael after dinner.  It was still a special night.

That’s what’s important I think – being able to get together and keep a family tradition together – even it if has to be a lower keyed version of what you have done in the past.

I am creating…
an idea for an All Saints Day costume for Rosie – since that is only a month away! 

I am going…
get a couple of walks in this week and regain some strength.  Also trying to reboot my digestive system – which frankly was much better before the colonoscopy!

I am wondering…

about how funny it is the way things work out.

Long time readers will know that Mr. Pete and I have had our kids in some kind of sports since they were very little.  Our oldest boy swam competitively, and then when swimming got too expensive, we had the rest of our kids running in cross country.  And although they all learned some valuable things from being in cross country including the importance of training, fitness, perseverance, and being part of a team – we have never EVER had a competitively fast athlete during the elementary years. In fact,  I can remember standing at the finish line with the officials after everyone had gone home while we waited for my runner to make it out of the woods and to the finish line!  So I’ve been there.  I know it’s not all about winning.

and yet…

it’s sort of nice to have a little athlete who enjoys running, enjoys competing, and is also talented enough to get moved up to the next level!  Rosie the 3rd grader, ran with the 5th and 6th grade girls yesterday and even got a PR – running 1 1/2 miles in 11 minutes and 54 seconds! 

Rosie’s best friend “My Olivia” also got promoted.  Rosie and Olivia take turns beating each other.  Last week Olivia beat Rosie.  This week was Rosie’s turn.
 

I am reading…

We had a bit of controversy on this blog at the beginning of the summer about public schools vs. homeschooling.  I myself am a product of public school, Catholic school and then private college and my mother taught in the public school system for over 30 years – and yet I had no clue – none – about how the educational system came to be in this country and I’ll bet most of the folks who are hands down “pro-public schooling no matter what” have no idea as well.  It’s a bit sobering.

I am hoping…

• That I can be on good terms with all of my sons.
• That the young women my sons give their hearts to won’t break them. 
• That I have the strength to manage a homeschool group and a soccer league and wondering if I am doing an adequate job at both.
• that all my children make good choices going forward.
• that I can get through the next few weeks of cross country and soccer.
• to start planning a costume for all saints day for Rosie. 
• that I can endure all of the things I am called to endure – through Christ who strengthens me. 

I am looking forward to…

• Rosie’s next cross country meet this weekend.
• Noah’s cross country meets now that he can be an official member of the team!
• Meeting a new member of the family.

Around the house…
Regrouping after a difficult weekend.  I also have to take my sister to the surgical center for some minor procedures today so that is also going to slow down school a bit and since the public schools have a day off this week I’m not going to feel one bit upset about it!

My beautiful son Noah – so proud of him running at the high school level.

And starting this week he will be an official member of the team as the new Ohio Law comes into effect.

I’m sad to say that I have heard of other kids who have been closed out of sports by their school districts because they didn’t have to comply until October 1, and so they refused to. So tell me again how the schools are all about the kids? let alone an asset to the tax papers?
