1.  Tomorrow is the first day for our homeschooled soccer league.  I figure between Pete and me and the kids we have about 80 man hours into getting this league in shape for fall.  If you add sleepless nights and worry we’re probably up over 100.  I’ve sort of made up my mind that whoever complains about anything will be doing this job next year.  Don’t like how quickly the deposits were made?  Congratulations – you are the new treasurer!  Thought the roster had too many misspelled names – up date your Word for Windows honey because you’ll be the data entry person next fall!  That’s pretty much the tact I’m taking with any complainers.

2.  Overall though, I do think this was a good experience for Izzy and Gabe.  Izzy helped me bag all of the t-shirts and socks to hand out to the kids tomorrow. Gabe helped me double check the registration forms with the player cards to make sure every kid was accounted for.  I think this is the type of experience that will serve them in the future when they have to organize things for work or family. I also tell Noah that he needs to learn all kinds of skills because if he does become a priest, he might not end up in a wealthy parish and he’ll be surprised with the kinds of things he will have to do!

3.  So here is a funny story that I’ve been saving for a few months.  Calvin wanted to buy an engagement ring for his long-time girlfriend.  He had been planning and saving and trying to figure out when and where to pop the question.  He found a beautiful ring at a very reasonable price, but he was just a little short of the purchase price, so I offered to help him out with it, in the hopes that we could possibly have a wedding in the future!  When I went to the bank, the tellers were not very busy, so I shared with them my happiness – that I was making a withdrawal to help my son purchase an engagement ring for a very special girl.  All of the tellers came over to hear about it and they all excitedly encouraged me to let them know how it went!

That afternoon, Calvin came over and it turns out he had to make his withdrawal too.  As we went into the bank together, I motioned to the tellers (behind Calvin’s back) that this was the son I was talking about.  When it was his turn to come up to the teller’s window they all applauded and shouted, “Congratulations!”

One of the tellers asked, ” Do you think you’ll have babies right away?”

and my son, who was miffed but also amused, looked right at me and said, “I think we’ll have a funeral first!”

Everyone laughed and wished him well too.  This is one of the nicest experiences I have ever had at a bank!

4.  They were engaged for a day. For a brief 5 minutes it was even on Calvin’s Facebook status.    Now they are back to dating and the ring is sitting in a box somewhere at Calvin’s place. and unfortunately that’s all I can really say about that.

5.Noah has been running with the local high school’s cross country team thanks to the new Ohio Law. I was able to snap this picture of him at a recent dual meet.

His time is a little over 21 minutes. To earn a letter he has to get it down to 18. I’m not sure that he will make it this season, but he sure is running faster than last year! And looks pretty good too!

Rosie has been running too! She has two races under her belt with CYO. They run the 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls together and she has managed to be the 5th girl in both times. Not too shabby for a newbie!

7. And Izzy- she makes art!
