My little girl made her first confession yesterday.  She had her Act of Contrition down cold, and she was not even a little bit scared (although she said she was nervous).  But she did very well and said the priest was very nice to her.  Afterwards, we lit two candles for her grandmothers. I’m sure that they were both very proud of her today!

2. Valentines Day came AFTER Ash Wednesday this year. But I decided that instead of putting everything away, we would keep everything up for Valentines day and then have a very bleak looking home for Lent.  I wanted there to be a stark contrast.  So this is what our house looked on Thursday, and tomorrow I’ll show you how our Lenten Dining Room looks.

It’s always hard to find something good to watch on Netflix, but I did some googling around and found this movie on on this list here,   Since I had already viewed several of the other movies on this list and enjoyed them, I took a chance on Bernie

5.  Interestingly, the methods Bernie used to get into Madge’s good graces are very similar to some of the things I learned in my Virtus Training.  They were also very similar to my EFC, Lucia Montoya’s tactics in taking money from my parents. I guess it’s a shame to say it, but you really have to be suspicious when people are being overly nice to your parents!

Aquinas and More is unfortunately going out of business, a victim of the new economy.

Aquinas and More is closing!
Yes, we gave it a lot of thought and after looking at our on-line sales we have decided that it is time to close Aquinas and More.
We still have a lot of inventory on hand that we will be selling to another company at the end of February but we would rather sell it to you.
Right now everything on the website is 20% off.

I’m an affiliate and you can get to their site in my left side bar.

7. Another sign of the times – I have been reading the book Bullies: How the Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences Americans, by Ben Shapiro.

It’s a fascinating read, the gist of which is that the favorite tool of the liberal left is bullying.  I’ve had my share of bullies in forums and blogs – a quick look at my right side bar will give a sampling.  I haven’t encountered as much in real life though.

My 23-year-old son Calvin did last week though.  He was sitting in a sandwich shop studying for a test while listening to his MP3 player.  He had a very small Don’t Tread On Me button on his backpack. He was suddenly approached by a young man who identified himself as being gay, and accused Cal of hating gays and women and the poor.

Calvin was at first startled because he had simply been minding his own business, so he asked the young man what made him think that, and the guy pointed to the button on his backpack.  So Calvin started to try to engage him on conversation about his notions, which was just met with further ad hominem attacks and accusations.

Figuring enough is enough Cal said, “You know, Ohio is a concealed carry state.  Do you see a sign on the door forbidding firearms in the building?”

The young man nervously checked turned to look at the door and then Calvin said, “What do you suppose I’m packing beneath my jacket on my right side?”

The man then quickly gathered his stuff, gave Calvin the finger, and left the place.

Calvin, BTW, does not have a concealed carry – yet.
