Outside my window

homeschool picnic, findagrave 010

A little friend of ours who found a way to keep occupied during the homeschool picnic.

I am thinking…
about the grave of my 2nd great grand aunt, Rosannah Klinger.  Little Rosanna was only two days old when she died.  She is buried right next to my great x3 grandparents.  She was the last of their 18 children, and probably a much hoped for baby as their 17th child, Samuel, also died as a baby.  We took a picture of little Rosannah’s grave last week.

However, I also found a picture of her stone from Findagrave.  This picture was taken just a year ago in 2011.

I think this stone used to stand up instead of being set in the ground – it may even be this stone leaning against the bigger stone back in 2009.

I’m afraid that after another year, you won’t be able to see it at all.  I’m going to mention it at the family reunion and see if maybe we might be able to get some funds to put up a plaque or something for this little baby’s grave site.

I am thankful for…
for every day of life – even if I sometimes forget to remember how grateful I actually am!

From the learning rooms
We are taking a well-deserved break and trying to get the front of the house painted and also visit some distant relatives before the end of the summer time.

Izzy though is completing her Course 2 of the Wilton Cake Decorating Classes.  And since Izzy will be enjoying a long weekend, she has only three days this week before she leaves, to make her flowers to put on her final cake!  She also has to make a batch of butter cream icing and a batch of royal, as well as bake and frost a cake before her class – it’s going to be pretty tight, but I think she can do it.

I found this sample Course 2 cake online.  This is what Izzy will have to make next Wednesday!

    From the kitchen…

    Pot roast tonight.

    I am wearing…
    Black pants, black T shirt.

    I am creating…
relationships with new affiliates on the blog here. And I’m doing it because it looks like I might have to back down from my relationship with Amazon, at least until after the fall election. Not that it will hurt that much – sales are way down from last year any way and it was time to try some other companies and I am particularly excited about the cookbook company and the seeds!

    I am going…
to be organized for this year’s camping trip!!  I have started packing while I am doing the laundry! We’ve also been adding things to bins as we think of them. There’s nothing worse than setting up camp somewhere and find out you forgot something simple but important – like a way to flip your hamburgers, or a line to put up your wet towels and swimming suits!

    I am reading…
Nothing. But I’m listening to some great MP3 recordings from  The Ultimate Homeschool Expo

Since we are starting cross country season, I just put on my MP3 and walk me 2 to 3 miles while getting inspired for the new school year!

    I am hoping…

to have the hospital bill for the lump I had removed in 2011 paid off by the end of the year.  The truth is, that I had the savings to pay that off in full – but the hospital would NOT give me a discount for doing so.  So the stubborn streak in me said, “Fine. Then you can go ahead and send me a monthly bill.”   And when I send in my final payment, I full intend to inform them that I deliberately dragged it out because they didn’t offer a discount for payment in full. Of course, the bill is so over inflated for the service rendered anyway, that I’m pretty sure it’s not a loss to them one way or the other – but it makes me feel like I’m making a statement.

    I am hearing…
the hum of the air conditioner
