1. We did have some successes this week worth noting. Sam took, and passed, the CLEP test in United States History 1 on Friday. He now has 15 college credits banked! Yea! This was a test he failed in 2009, so it was a doubly good feeling to have him beat it totally this time around!
2. Calvin had some good news too. He applied for a manufacturing position and took their pre-employment test. They called him almost immediately in for an interview because, according to the interviewer, he had one of the highest scores they had ever had on that test! I guess the test was very mechanically oriented and Cal (and Mr. Pete) are both good at that sort of thing. So after the earlier devastation this week, it was nice to have that go right. Hopefully he will have a job offer coming his way soon!
3. Wedding season is upon us – I have my first wedding to coordinate next weekend and I gotta tell ya – I’ve been having palpitations about it and waking up in a cold sweat – of course that could also be menopause, but since I’m usually getting out of a wedding-related dream when I wake up I have to think the approaching wedding season is triggering this!
Last season I had a mother of the groom call me stupid and inept, another mother got out of her car in the parking lot and screamed at me for having the rehearsal time moved around, a grandmother that nearly passed out in the back of the church, and a couple that nearly didn’t get married because they forgot to bring their marriage license to the church. And that was just last year. In past years I’ve also had brides that e-mailed or called me A LOT about details of their wedding and for re-assurance, and I also had a best man make me feel very uncomfortable ( and even a little afraid for my safety) when I broke up their drinking party in the servers sacristy. Don’t get me wrong – most of the people I have had to deal with over the past ten years of doing this have been very kind and wonderful and I have had a lot of fun running their rehearsals. But the really stressful ones have started to overcloud those.
4. My homeschool group has had three get-togethers at local parks over the past weeks. Nothing fancy- just moms showing up on a Friday with their kids, giving the kids a chance to play and moms a chance to talk. And these were SO EASY to arrange – just pick a park and tell everyone you were showing up! Easier than planning a real field trip!
5. Soccer is halfway done for the season and Rosie has become quite the little competitor – she scored four goals yesterday!
I don’t think Gabe is in it solely for the sport…
6. Gabe and Sam are in sort of a strange triangle. Sam’s girlfriend is Gabe’s BFF – which sort of puts Gabe in a strange position when Sam and his GF have a fight. I was thinking about this last week when Sam was home because of a disagreement, but Gabe was still out. I really value family loyalty. Especially between siblings. No matter what. Argue all you want to in the home between yourselves, but when it’s between family and anyone else, there should be a united front, even if it’s a silent united front. I expressed these thoughts to Gabe… who promptly went off and told Sam’s steady – who then did the only thing a young lady could do in that situation when she has no other control over her boyfriend’s mom. Dropped me as a facebook friend.
7. After 25 years of living in the home of the Goodyear Blimp, we got an opportunity to go up in it- unfortunately we had only 45 minutes short notice and Mr. Pete was already on his road route and I was on my way to the park. Drat…
Well as I told Mr. Pete – it took us 25 years to get the first invite – what’s another 25?!!
