1. Izzy told me she wanted to make cupcakes for the Valentines Day Party.
2. I thought she would need about 1/2 an hour to decorate them. – I had no idea!
3. The party went off without a hitch. These are the newer moms in my homeschool group; I am probably the oldest. With my 6-year-old and then my teen agers I sort of span the entire age range of moms in the group.
4. I am starting to notice some problems with having a large age range of moms in the group. The older moms (moms who have kids that are now in college or beyond, or who have homeschooled for so long it’s like second nature to them) don’t really care to talk about homeschooling. They sure want to talk about politics though and current events – mainly voting Obama out of office, or the Komen fiasco and stuff like that. And they post links about that sort of thing incessantly on our homeschool group’s board.
But in talking to some of the younger moms yesterday it is clear that they aren’t even reading that stuff. They check their e-mail, see if there is anything inspiring, interesting or helpful for them as homeschoolers, and then they hit the delete button.
So yesterday I posted some guidelines – basically let’s hit the homeschooling part of Catholic homeschooling a little harder, and use a lot of discretion in posting anything political – because that is so readily available in other places.
The result was three more posts by older moms about political stuff – which makes me think MY posts are being fed to the delete button without being read too!
5. My sister tells me that she will not bring her fiance over to my house. Ever. We definitely have a lived in look – piano, drum set, amps and guitars in one side of the living room, books (neatly in shelving or on ledges) every where, and a kitchen that looks as if it belonged in a short-order restaurant clean – but always something going (like cupcakes!) And a front porch that has a lot of Mr. Pete’s projects and some stuff of my mom’s still hanging around. So I’m not sure exactly how to feel about that. Kind of proud of our inner-city family home.
6. My oldest son Calvin, lost his job and is trying to get his unemployment kick started. Apparently his employer has 14 more days to get some paper work in. In the meantime Calvin is low on funds. I do offer him food quite frequently but I have refrained from giving him any more cash. Yesterday I was going to give him $50 because he seemed to need it and because he has made an effort to go back to church and to confession (Thank you President Obama for giving young Catholics a chance to join the Church militant!) but then I asked him if he was planning on moving back home and he said, “Mom, I am never going to move back home. Ever.” There was just something about the way he said it that rubbed me the wrong way. I kept my $50 and offered him some of our dinner, but he declined.
7. My Google page rank went back up to a 4 – which made me very happy. I have no idea why it went up, just as I had no idea why it went down! But I read somewhere that using tags actually helps and I have started doing that – so maybe that was all it took?
those are some AMAZING cupcakes!
Thanks Jen. It took her all morning, but I didn't want to stifle her creativity!
What happened to Calvin's job?
