Spread the love

Outside my window
…dark and rainy and cool – a nice relief from the high heat last Thursday and Friday!

I am thinking…
about how lonely marriage and family life can be. I’ll bet that’s surprising for a lot of young women looking to be married someday. I know it has been a surprise for me at times. It is work that has kept Mr. Pete away for many hours during the week. Before we had children I worked outside of the home and then I had dancing and music to keep me busy after work while Mr. Pete kept working. Maybe I first noticed the loneliness after the babies started coming. That was eased somewhat when my children got a bit older and of course when my mother moved to town. But recently with Mr. Pete working a lot, my kids outside or away with friends, and mom gone, I am feeling that loneliness again. And even though I spent three nights with people last week and a good chunk of the weekend, it still seems lonely when I get back home. Maybe the loneliness is for that history and intimacy with friends and family that really know me. Maybe that is what I am really missing right about now.

I am thankful …
just for life. Fully aware that I need to make each day something special, and something to count.

From the learning rooms
Preparing for homeschooling next week with the Organized Mom Superset I bought a few years ago – still a great tool!

This is my 15th year of homeschooling. I am NOT giddy over new curriculum, nor do I have reams and reams of paper plans for the upcoming year. My goals are simple:

  • Get Izzy to read confidently and fluently.
  • Get Rosie off with a good start in reading.
  • Help Noah and Gabe become proficient writers.
  • Get Sam to achieve all the CLEP tests he needs to move on to Thomas Edison!

From the kitchen…
We are grilling tonight. Chicken.  Calvin is coming “home” to share a meal with us and then he is going “home” with Sarah.  sigh…

Last week though, I made a big pot of chili on Wednesday night and then I baked potatos and served the chili on top of the potatos with melted cheddar and a salad – they LOVED IT!!!  We ate about 3 p.m. too so that was plenty of time for digestion before the cross country meet at 6.  I think I might repeat that this week.

I am wearing…
Danskin workout shorts and a big oversized pink T that looks like heck but feels great!
I am creating…
some plans for next week. I want to get into a rhythm of exercise and prayer before homeschooling this week.
I am going…
shoe shopping – soccer shoes. This time for Rosie.

I am reading…
Cut your Grocery Bill in Half with America’s Cheapest Family.

I am hoping…
to see results when I step on the scale next week after several weeks of heavy walking.  I have not set foot on a scale all summer but I have had several people mention that I lost weight – so I’m anxious to see how much.

I am looking forward to…
this Friday being over with – I have to play the flute for the wedding at 5:00, then stick around for one wedding rehearsal and then run the second wedding rehearsal at 7:30.  I’m sort of over doing weddings (although I have quite a few more to do before the end of the year!)

One of my favorite things…
PinterestIt’s not as “useful” per se as Diigo or Delicious, but it is certainly beautiful and even restful. I enjoy just wandering through it!
