Outside my window…
Not as hot as last week, but you could still work up a good sweat by just being outside! We took a trip to the beach on Saturday to celebrate Calvin and Gabe’s birthday – and Rosie had lots of fun!
I am thinking…
about life in general and how fast my children’s childhoods are going past, and how excited I am to see them grow up but in a bittersweet sort of way.
I am thankful …
that Calvin was accepted into the Paramedic Training at a local hospital. I am also grateful that he was not seriously injured in a car vs. ambulance accident last week. He was performing CPR on a patient when the ambulance was hit broadside and he was knocked off of his feet. It could have been a lot worse.
I am also thankful that all of the Youth Group activities are finally over! I would love to see Sam settle down and just have work, guitar and study for a while!
From the learning rooms…
Sam did not pass the Natural Science CLEP test. The scale is 20 to 80 with a pass of 50 and he got a 47. That test is real bear and even gets some notice on Youtube as being one of the toughest to pass. Nonetheless, his coach thinks that instead of wasting the time and effort, that Sam should go ahead and try for the Biology exam. He already has a lot of time in studying biology for the natural science test and that will help him prepare for it.
We also visited another College Plus student on Friday. This young man has successfully completed all of the CLEP and DANTES tests and is now finishing up his degree at Thomas Edison. He gave Sam an idea of how he studied and prepared for each test and I think it gave Sam some idea of the level of commitment he has to achieve if he wants to pass this! It was very eye opening, and very encouraging.
In other news, Izzy is corresponding with one of her cousins and it has really encouraged her to start writing more. She is also cutting flowers for the church and has to write down what she does in the church log – so these are two writing activities that are encouraging her to write more. So with that in mind, I have resurrected her blog and hopefully she will start using that more too.
From the kitchen…
Whatever it is, I’m going to grill it outside!
I am wearing…
Dark blue shorts and a black T-shirt
I am remembering:
Mama always. Also at the reunion there is a little cousin there that is exactly the age Raphael would have been. It was very nice to see her playing with Rosie – they are good little cousin friends. But I can’t help but wonder what if… sometimes that hole in the family is very noticeable.
Tomorrow is also my mother’s wedding anniversary. When I went in to buy the masses, I bought one for the anniversary of her death, and then I was going to buy another one on the Feast of St. Anne, because she always liked that day (we use to celebrate with her as a Catholic Grandparent’s Day!) and because it was her wedding anniversary. But I was recalcitrant to include my dad with that. I still have some issues with him, but while I was in the rectory my mind kept saying, “add your dad, add your dad, add your dad’s name too!” So mom is getting her way and the mass will be said in honor of both of them tomorrow on their 53rd wedding anniversary on the Feast of St. Anne.
I am creating…
a clean house this week as I have only a little typing to do.
I am going…
To take Noah running a few times to get ready for his 5K on Saturday. Trying to get at least one cardio in a day but hoping for a few days when I can get two cardios in – but folks the chances of me going outside for a fast walk in temperatures over 90 degrees are slim to none!
I am reading…
The Duggars
I am hoping…
to get some flute practice in as well as getting all of my cardio in.
I have also discovered that Father Larry Richards does a radio show every day at 10 a.m. Had the kids listen to it today and it was a very good one about confession! Think I might make this a daily thing during the summer!
Around the house…
Laundry and getting the classroom in order as well as ordering dirt for the outside.
