7- Quick Takes

1. Had some blog posts that were EATEN AND LOST by Blogger while it was down this week!! Grrrrr…..Note to self- save everything as a word document until it actually posts on blog and remains up for 24 hours! What a waste of time!

2. Generally this was a very tense week. I am feeling a little sad and I think it is because I tend to re-live the events of two years ago that lead up to my mother’s death. Mother’s day this week certainly didn’t help very much.

This is just the way I grieve. When Raphael died, I relived that for a few years. Same with my Grandpa and my Uncle and my Grandmother. Mr. Pete says that it’s my way of processessing what happened and getting it all worked out in my mind so that I can live with it. Big events like death take a while to absorb and accept, so he’s probably right.

3. Rosie was sick this week too. She told me that a neighbor girl had accidentally hit her in the ear with something. I gave her a kiss and told her to just settle down for a bit, but even after some ice and some Dimetapp (because I thought maybe she was getting an ear infection) she was fussing about it so much that I eventually took her to the emergency room. She picked the face on the far right as her pain level! but the doctor looked her over and couldn’t find anything wrong. He gave her some ibuprofen and sent us home. The next day she said she had a headache and quit eating. Yesterday she spiked a fever of 104.3!

4.  Because of the fever (which I was able to get down to normal with the ole ibuprofen/acetaminophen, Popsicle, cold bath routine) I missed Sam and Gabe performing with the parish choir at the Jubilation Choir Competition last night.  But I did get to hear it over the internet and they sounded great!

5.  Because of the wedding, the choir competition, the sickness, homeschooling was lame this week.  I did manage to get some movies to keep the kids occupied. One of the movies I had them watch was Jesus Christ Superstar from the 1970s, which they totally laughed at!  I remembered that the vocals were awesome and that the orchestration was great.  But I forgot how dated the rest of it was!  I remember how I use to weep over the scourging scene  but compared now to the Passion of the Christ, it was pretty mild. 

Next up – Godspell!  Now you might ask why I’m having my kids watch these movies, but I think it’s part of our shared cultural literature that they see these at least once.  Noah, my amateur theologian had a lot of issues with Jesus Christ Superstar, but it was good to get them out there and discuss it. Gabe, the drummer, learned that not all of the music that came out of the 70s was lame. I’m not sure what Izzy thought.

6. Turns out Ted Neeley, the man who has been playing Jesus for the past 30 years is now in his mid-60s and still performing the part.  I found it on Youtube.  This is Gethsemane, from the musical. 

My impression is that he sings this as a man in his 60s and he brings with it his life experiences and maturity.  I kind of like it better than the version he did in his 30s!

7.  Funniest thing to come out of the Royal Wedding after Beatrice’s hat!  From my nice niece on Facebook!
