Spread the love

Ohio Winter Barn

Another Ohio Winter Scene, this time by Flicker contributor Duncande150

The snow has turned to water and slush around here and we had rain in the living room yesterday for about an hour as the melted snow found it’s way under the shingles.  Mr. Pete says it’s from the missing flashing around the chimney- which he said LAST time it started raining the living room.

I am thinking…
about the liturgical year.  There was a very good discussion of the two liturgical calendars over at the 4Real Learning Forums. Sometimes it seems that the powers that be changed things around willy nilly on the calendar without really regarding how the faithful really felt about it.  For example, on the new calendar, today is NOT St. Valentine’s feast day!  But it was for hundreds of years before.  And apparently that’s not going to change in the hearts of the people.  Pope Benedict understood this when he wrote:

But in some regions, no small numbers of faithful adhered and continue to adhere with great love and affection to the earlier liturgical forms.

St. Valentine’s day is one of those days!
I am thankful …
that my Goddaughter is engaged to be married.  Every year when I get ready for our Pre-Cana talk, I sort of have my children, nieces and nephews and godchildren in the back of my mind as I give it.  And I tweak the talk in someways to fit what I think they would need to hear.  By the way, Mr. Pete and I gave the talk on Saturday, and I’ll be posting it here soon.

From the learning rooms

Gabe and Noah are hitting Rosetta Stone Latin consistently, as well as General Science.
Sam is working on his next CLEP test in Science.  He is also working on Spanish II, pre-Calc and literature. Pre-Calc is kicking his butt!  Really looking forward to seeing the Math tutor tomorrow! I have decided to have him graduate with the state-wide homeschool group at the convention in the spring and he will have to write an essay for that.
Izzy is working in language arts, spelling (Spelling Power) reading and is up to lesson 111 in Saxon math!
Noah is in lesson 109  as well.  Those kids whizzed through math last week!
Gabe is in lesson 43 with pre-Algebra.
Noah and Gabe are done with  Lord of the Flies and I we read Rip Van Winkle last week.  This week we start Animal Farm.

From the kitchen…
Barbecue chicken, potatoes and salad!

I am wearing…
I’m dressing up a little bit for Valentine’s Day and wearing a pink top with diamond buttons that my sister gave me.

I am remembering:
Mama – always!

I am creating…
a speech for RCIA – because it seems that I have to get all my public speaking done during this four to six week period!  LOL!  In my heart of hearts I would really like to do a lot of speaking all the time, and maybe even make it my next career.

I am going…

to take it easy this week, at least with standing aerobics.  My left knee has been bothering me since Saturday and I DO NOT want it to turn into a chronic injury.

When Mr. Pete hurt his back and we went to the sports medicine doctor, he had him taking two Aleve twice a day and Tylenol for a week as well as rest and stretching, so that’s what I have started for my knee and it does feel better today.

I hope it turns out like my shoulder.  That started hurting last August whenever I tried to do triceps on my right hand side, but I left it alone and now it doesn’t hurt at all.  I think the trick is to take time to heal. Luckily I just purchased an old firm tape that is only floor work and I also have
Jiggle Free Abs that is not hard on the legs either.

I am reading…

I am hoping…
that my little girls have a lot of fun at the Valentine’s Day Party today!  I have to make memories for them, especially Rosie, just like I did for Calvin, Sam and Gabe when they were little.
I am hearing…
Kids getting ready to go to the party.

Around the house…
is a mess. Because NO ONE PICKS UP ANYTHING WHEN I’M NOT AROUND TO SCREAM ABOUT IT.  It’s like they sensed I was nursing this knee and felt it was safe to wreck havoc in the house!
A picture I am sharing:
This is an old Valentine’s Day Card that I found.  My Uncle sent it to his sister and her husband, my mother and father, around 1958 or 1959.  How very special that my mother kept it!
