1. My mother always had a disconnect with her body. She referred to her body in individual body parts. Thus when she broke her ankle it was “the ankle” and her ruptured disk was in “the back” etc. It was never “my ankle” or “my back” or “my brain tumor.” I wonder if somehow she always knew that her body would betray her in such a brutal fashion in the end?

2. Note to ex-suitors – coming to the holidays, attending a funeral, teasing the little cousins and letting them tease you back, becoming part of the gang only to break up with one of our special girls isn’t cool and in fact was hurtful on a lot of levels- and it is going to make it infinitely harder on the next suitor to get accepted easily. Thanks for messing that up! Oh and doing it less than a week after a sad family funeral was cruel and exhibited impeccably bad timing. Grow up.

3. Well speaking of accepting suitors, we are spending the 4th of July with Calvin, Sarah, and Sarah’s parents. I’ve met them a couple of times now and they came to calling hours and brought us a delicious meal on Monday – I think we’re going to have a very good time getting to know each other. Calvin, is beside himself. He likes to visit them, to get away from us! and now his worlds are colliding!!!

5. This was the second reading at my mom’s funeral. The day I found it my girlfriend in Michigan had read it as part of her scripture reading. I think it is perfect for cancer patients:

16Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

6. Today I take my second son to get his driving temps- as if I did not have enough stress in my life…

7. I had something for #7, but it has totally completely left my mind. I think I am finally starting the menopause. Interestingly my hot flashes only occur from the wrists down – which Mr. Pete says should come in handy for getting the snow and ice off of the windshields this winter.

Bonus!! I remember what it was now.

A couple of weeks ago Janette, a frequent commenter here, said I should quit being “brainwashed” by the likes of Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk radio hosts and commentators on Fox news. So I asked her to give me a list of 10 things that she thinks I should read regarding government, national policy etc. Janette declined to answer.

So aside from Obama’s two books, what should I read that I will find to be compelling and sway me from my conservative views. Can’t wait to see what people come up with.
