Outside my window…
I have a messy backyard. I think this is the week I’m going to have the kids help me get it cleaned up and ready for some planting!
I am thinking…
what a funny thing life is. When you’re young it seems to go on for ever and then in a blink of the eye, you’re 50! I will be 50 at my next birthday. 50 with a 4 year old. And I just feel so blessed to be here, a little afraid of what’s ahead but in a positive hopeful sort of way.
I am thankful for… for my best friend Twana, who I am still able to pour my heart out too – even if we haven’t spoken for months and months!
I am also thankful to my niece Mallory. We really weren’t able to be close as she was growing up, but I am grateful that as a young woman she reached out to me and we are able to have a very loving relationship now. There is some precedent for that in my family. As I was growing up my grandparents very often welcomed their nieces and nephews into their home and many times visited their nieces and nephews in their homes for dinner. So I am happy that Mallory and I are continuing that extended family tradition.
From the learning rooms…Well my fear is coming true. Looks like the kids really will get almost three weeks of spring break! The first week was dealing with my mom’s illness in the hospital, last week her surgery and clearing her things out of her apartment, and this week our own spring cleaning! I do however want everyone to do one lesson of math AND I would like Sam to start the new literature program I received from Hewitt.
From the kitchen… BBQ chicken today. I also have a delicious soup recipe I am interested in trying on Friday.
I am wearing…Black capri pants, Danskin shirt and red sweater.
I am creating… a poster of pictures for my mom’s hospital room. Finally decided on the pictures.
I am going… to try to walk or exercise every day. I finally willed myself to step on the scale and I discovered that I actually hadn’t gained any weight at all, which is amazing because I tend to be an emotional eater and Lord knows I’ve had enough to be emotional about!
I am reading… Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time It’s Valerie Bertinelli’s autobiography. I found it to be very disappointing. She blames the breakup of her marriage to Eddie Van Halen on their young ages, but I was 20 when I got married and Mr. Pete was 21. Mr. Pete’s grandparents were 16 when they married and their marriage lasted over 50 years! So I don’t necessarily buy into the age thing for a reason marriages don’t work. I did enjoy reading about her diet experiences with Jenny Craig though.
I am hoping… just to get through the week, get mom back on the road to recovery and possibly discharged from the hospital!
I am hearing… someone pouring cereal downstairs.
Around the house…Some spring cleaning.
A few plans for the rest of the week:Keep up with my typing, work in some exercise, deep clean the house.
A picture I am sharing:
This awesome picture of Noah at the Easter Vigil Fire. This was his first time serving for the Easter Vigil Mass and I think he did very well.
Our new priest is very traditional. He has the servers process in with lanterns on posts and then kneel on the marble floors during the consecration. And while I love that, I did look at the sway of some of those lanterns from the weary altar boys and said a prayer that the consecration prayer would go a bit faster!! But all the boys did well, no one crashed, and it was a wonderful, joyful mass.
