Jennifer over at Et Tuhas a weekly meme going called Quick Take Fridays. Check there every Friday to see what’s up with Jen and her readers
This is my first – note that it is on Saturday because my Friday was just like that!
1. Yesterday, I had big plans for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I usually put our my OLOG painting, and light candles, and I had a rose wreath this year and a special dinner planned… none of that happened.
2. My mother started complaining that her leg was aching. She mentioned it on Tuesday. She still had pain and swelling on Wednesday and I called the nurse where she lives and asked her to take a look at it. She told me that my mom didn’t appear to have a blood clot, so we left it at that. But on Thursday it was still hurting her and we had her see her oncology office. They said clinically she didn’t have a positive Homan sign, so they scheduled her for an ultrasound – on MONDAY! I didn’t want to wait until Monday and got it worked out for her to get a Doppler ultrasound of her leg yesterday morning. It turns out that was a good thing because she does have an nice sized blood clot behind her knee. They prescribed Lovenox and Coumadin. After one injection and two tablets, this morning she is just starting to get some relief. I’m so glad we didn’t wait until Monday!
3. All that running around with mom took from 9:30 a.m. to about 1:00 p.m. No homeschooling got done. My kids pretty much goofed off the entire day.
4. I ran home, got all of my medical transcription ready to deliver. Then Sam and I made the rounds. We delivered my work to the hospital, we went to the library and got some historical tapes and CDs for next week’s homeschool, as well as Legend of Sleepy Hollow for Sam to read as part of his American Lit course. We then hit the shoe repair place to pick up some shoes and the local school to pick up a cake I had ordered as part of their fund raiser. I was finally home by 3:00.
5. All three of my teenage sons have big feet. Gabe is size 11, Sam size 13, Calvin can squeeze into a 14. So it was better for me to get shoes repaired than to buy new ones. But Sam’s every day shoes are hurting his toes and he has holes in them (how they get holes in the tops of their shoes is beyond me). But at $40 a pair, I think he’s going to have to wait a bit for that. He does have dress shoes now though.
6. About 4:30 Calvin called me to say that he had a tirod break on his car and could I please pick him up and take him to work. Luckily, Mr. Pete was able to do it. The bad part was that because of the poor weather and bad road conditions, this made him 2 minutes late getting to the bank so he wasn’t able to put his check in and we are over drawn. I hate that bank.
7. I also had a wedding rehearsal last night. Again, because of the poor road conditions we were 30 minutes late getting started and that was still with several of the gentleman of the bridal party missing. But they were very nice folks and we were just happy that people arrived safely. I was out of there by 7:30.
I didn’t mention that although I was ticked about going to that school to pick up my order, (which they ended up not having anyway!) I was happy to get inside of this school building. I have lived in this neighborhood over 20 years and have never been inside. The tile in the foyer is stunning, but the steps and stairs have been very worn and were dangerously uneven. The building is 108 years old! It is scheduled to be torn down and rebuilt this spring, so I feel fortunate to at least see the inside of it.
