1. I had funny answers to prayers this week. On Monday I prayed that our main pipe from our house to the sewer would unplug itself. As I was taking a very, very quick shower (so as not to back up the drain) Mr. Pete called upstairs that the drain was apparently unplugged and I could shower as long as I like and we could flush all of the toilets and do laundry! I thought then that maybe I should also say a quick prayer hoping that more transcription work would suddenly appear. And voila! In my e-mail was a request for someone to take on a new doctor specializing in breast cancer. But by 3 p.m. the drain was backed up again, and the new doctor decided she only wanted to phone in her dictation, which is incompatible with the system I am currently on. So I was pretty much back where I started. I’m not sure of the moral here. Maybe to be more specific with regard to time parameters?

2. Calvin is taking his EMT-Basic registry test right now!!! If he passes he will be an employable EMT!! I’m praying for him!!

3. Calvin also bought his girlfriend of two years a promise ring for this Christmas. It’s lovely. I know she will love it. I remember my first promise ring. It had a gold setting and a saphire. At the time I worked in the drive through at McDonald’s and one night after work I noticed it was missing. It must have slipped off of my finger at work. Someone really got a surprise happy meal that night! Mr. Pete replaced it, but the stone fell out! Ignoring these as bad omens he still bought me an engagement ring a year or so later.

4. I note that last year at this time, I was taking on a new transcription job and I was apprehensive about it. Turns out I shouldn’t have been. That doctor dictated for one month, which nicely made up for all the accounts that slowed down during December. But then he quit his practice after that and I never got any more work from him. How weird?

5. So this month I am in the same boat. I start training with a new company tonight. I am hoping that the extra income will give us a bit more peace. I am apprehensive about having one more thing to do during the day. This job will require a minimum of 300 lines per day, and that’s on top of the other work I have to do and homeschooling and homemaking and all the rest of it. But I’m going to give myself a goal of sticking to it for at least the next six months.

6. What that means for you dear blog readers is that I am not going to have as much time to read and comment on line. In fact this blog might just become more journal-like. That might actually be better though. And I will probably twitter more too!

7. I am not stressed about Christmas. The kids know it is going to be very, very low key this year. I am so glad that my four middle kids got to participate musically at church. That was the best experience of all. I loved playing my flute at church and I look forward to playing for all three Christmas masses. And then I retire again. At least until Easter.
