Spread the love

Mr. Pete and I walked down to our polling place around 7:30 this morning. The line was almost out the door and we waited a total of 90 minutes before we could cast our vote. This year had a much different feel to it than the last presidential election. There weren’t swarms of people in the parking lot trying to give us information. There weren’t people on the side walks with signs and shouting. In fact, the city seems surprisingly quiet. Is this the result of early voting? Maybe.

The group we waited with was predominantly African American and most were I’d say 35 to 65, although there were some a lot older than that as our poll is within a Senior Citizen center. There were four or five poll workers and they did quite a thoroughly job of checking everyone through. We even had to show ID, something I don’t remember having to do before.

Voting was a snap if you knew the issues ahead of time. I was done with our four page ballot in under five minutes.

I spending the rest of the day in watchful anticipation of the results. My gut is telling me this is going to be more like the 2000 election than the 2004, with results coming in weeks instead of hours.

I am debating with myself about getting a movie tonight instead of watching CNN, Fox or any of the others. Frankly, if Dancing with the Stars was having their results tonight, I’d watch that! If I OD on this stuff I won’t be able to sleep. We have a new Red Box in our neighborhood- I might have to go down there and take a look.

We are also having Benediction tonight at church – It seems like a fitting night to get over to church to pray for the country.
