Ohio Home School Alert System » LEGISLATIVE ALERT!: “Ohio Home Education Regulations Under State Review: Immediate Public Input Needed!

For the first time in almost 20 years, the Ohio Department of Education is placing the home education regulations under a formal review (OAC 3301-34). There is an immediate and urgent need for every citizen, who cares about protecting the freedom to home educate in Ohio, to log onto the Ohio Department of Education’s link for public feedback. The ODE is extending the deadline to AUGUST 4th.

Brief Background:
In Ohio certain agency regulations are required to undergo a review every 5 years to determine if changes are necessary. Home education regulations were initially approved in 1989. For the previous review cycles the ODE recommended no changes. In general, these regulations have served Ohio families well for the past 19 years!

This year is different! ODE staff members have expressed their intention to have a more thorough and formal review. If this process moves forward, the regulations which have benefited so many families for the past two decades will be at risk!”
