Spread the love

“Justin is known as an apologist, one who defends in writing the Christian religion against the attacks and misunderstandings of the pagans.”

“He was an earnest seeker after truth, and studied”

Today is the feast of Justin Martyr.   By some odd coincidence it is also my birthday.  It wasn’t until I reverted back to my Catholic Faith and started to get interested in such things that I discovered that I was born on the feast of a saint that I felt such an immediate kinship too.  Of course it wasn’t until I reverted back to my Catholic Faith that I felt the need to defend it, study it, and seek the truth from it.  Isn’t it funny sometimes how God gives us the role models that we need, and puts them in special places in our lives for us to benefit from, even when we aren’t aware of it?   How he designed this special date as a connection between this holy saint and me, born centuries later, is just awesome.  It makes me even more aware that God really has a plan and is working it, every day, of every year, through the centuries and that I am indeed a part of it!

I wrote that in 2006 and I still thought it was appropriate to share today. I am now the 49-year-old mother of an almost three year old, and a high school graduate with a gang of kids in the middle! It’s fun, it’s exhilarating, it is the hardest work I have ever done in my life. The weird thing is that I don’t feel the way I thought almost 50 would feel? In fact other than some arm pains (from carrying a 30 pound toddler around) I can’t see much difference between 49 and 39 and possibly 29 (although I can’t remember that far back – that IS one difference I suppose!)

Anyway, Mr. Pete wanted to know what I wanted to do for my birthday and I told him I wanted to go on a family bike ride. Rosie is old enough to sit in her bike stroller, all of the other kids can ride bikes, so it looks like we’re gonna go! And that is DEFINITELY something I would never be able to do at 49 when I was a kid.

I had an epiphany moment last week when I was taking my mom to Calvin’s graduation – I am almost the age my mom was at my wedding! Seriously. When I did the math she was 51 when I got married. And I thought my mom was OLD then!! Time and experience have changed my view. Having these kids around, particularly the ornery little one, have changed my perspective.

So anyway, I’m off to be pampered for my birthday, right after I clean up the sink and fold a load of laundry! Such is life!

Say also Happy Birthday to Deb at Ukok’s place!
