So what was the result of the Partial Birth Abortion Ban anyway?

Spread the love

I sort of got involved with the discussion here about the partial birth abortion with a posting of some of my old comments on the topic here.

(For the record, the blogger, Cecily, and I get along great. We just respectfully disagree with each other.)

But the whole thing has made me wonder about what affect has the partial birth abortion fan had on maternal mortality and morbidity. It would seem to me that in the year since the ban took effect, there would be a huge backlash if women were dying in droves because of the unavailability of the D&E or D&X procedures. I certainly haven’t been able to find any articles or information about it.

I did read that in some instances physicians were killing the baby (lethal injection) before bringing the body out of the mother, thus meeting the letter of the law if not the spirit. But it’s unclear how often that is done either.

I’ve never had answers to these questions either.

Also this from ACOG.
