Spread the love

I blog and write all the time about how important it is to be open to the gift of children and giving kids siblings. But I know that sometimes when families are struggling with lots of young children and perhaps stretched finances, it’s hard to look down the road to see the bigger picture. It’s easy to get swallowed up in the every day difficulties and seek the easiest solution of “I’m done!” having kids.

So in that regard, I’d like to give folks a peek into a possible future. Last week Mr. Pete traveled to be with his older brother on his 60th birthday. All of the living siblings were there and some of the spouses, nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Even with only part of the family in attendance, they had a full-to-capacity event and I think you can tell by the pictures the love and fellowship between Mr. Pete’s brothers and sisters.

My in-laws, Isadore and Virginia weren’t rich. He was a world war 2 veteran who came back to the states with a disability. He worked in the auto factory to support his family. Virginia was a homemaker. They lived their life as it came without undue anxiety about the future and raised a beautiful family of kids, who in turn are raising their own families, and so it goes.

This birthday party was certainly a testament to Mr. Pete’s oldest brother Joe, but I think it also stood as a testament to the love and parenting of two people joined in marriage, who lived a simple life, and were just open to the gifts that God sent them from that.
