On September 13, 2006 I walked by my office and noticed the blue screen of death on my computer monitor with some ominous wording at the top. I can’t remember the exact computer phrase but it basically meant my hard drive was no longer spinning, in fact it would never spin again and all of the data on that hard drive was buried within it for ever. It was all gone.

I went through the five stages of grief with a particularly long stay over in the anger and bargaining phase, but eventually I had to pull it together and get another computer.

Luckily I had a lot of my photos stored here and there throughout the internet, but most of my documents were gone including one very important one for work. I VOWED to never let that happen again.

Since they I have found an online computer backup system that backs up and stores my data effortlessly and for free. In fact I don’t have to tell the backups to happen, they back up my data continuously throughout the day.

I use a2GB totally free online backup compliments of Mozy. It backs up 2 Gs of data for free. But if I ever decide that I need it to backup more I can sign up for unlimited backups for under $5.00 per month! If I sign up for a year I can get a free month; three months free for a two year commitment. I’ve been running the free backup for over six months now and it’s been effortless and it certainly gives me piece of mind.
